2025 NBA AllStar Weekend Loaded with Wildcats
Nine with University of Kentucky ties have been selected for festivities

SAN FRANCISCO – Big Blue Nation descends upon the Bay Area this weekend as the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend festivities will feature nine athletes with ties to the University of Kentucky.

Kentucky’s representatives are headlined by four selections to the 74th NBA All-Star Game: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Davis and Tyler Herro. Davis will not play in the exhibition due to injury, but Gilgeous-Alexander, Towns and Herro are all set to partake. The revamped all-star event will feature a four-team tournament and will be held at the Chase Center on Feb. 16. Gilgeous-Alexander and Towns will team up for “Team Barkley,” captained by NBA legend Charles Barkley, while Herro is a part of Kenny Smith’s roster. The action begins at 8 p.m. ET and can be seen live on TNT.

With four NBA All-Star Game selections, Kentucky once again has the most representatives of any school. Davis earned his UK-record 10th selection, while Towns was picked for the fifth time and Gilgeous-Alexander a third. Herro is set to make his NBA All-Star debut this weekend, becoming the 20th different Kentucky men’s basketball alumni to earn an NBA All-Star nod.

Preceding Sunday’s headliner, Wildcats will be involved in several other marquee events. Kentucky track & field alumna, and Olympic gold medalist, Masai Russell is set to participate in the Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. Following that, Reed Sheppard will take the stage for the Castrol Rising Stars mini tournament on TNT, beginning at 9 p.m. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cason Wallace was also an initial selection for the Rising Stars tournament but has since been replaced due to injury. The winning team from the tournament will advance for a chance to compete against the NBA All-Stars on Sunday night.

On Saturday, the sharp-shooting Herro will be one of eight competitors for the 2025 Starry 3-point contest, airing on TNT at 8 p.m. ET. A first time All-Star selection, this marks Herro’s second appearance in the 3-point shooting contest. He will look to become the third UK product to win the event and join past champions Devin Booker and Towns.

Skal Labissiere and TyTy Washington Jr. will be part of the All-Star Game’s final appetizer as they take the court at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday for the G League Up Next Game presented by AT&T.
