Ben Affleck's New Dunkin' Ad Is This Year's Best Super Bowl ...
Put on your best Boston accent, because Ben Affleck is back with another Dunkin' commercial. In the ad, which debuted during Super Bowl LVIII, Affleck is pushing the DunKings Menu. You're not asking, but it includes the actor's signature order: an iced coffee with cream, sweet foam, and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.
But you surely are asking: What the hell is a DunKing?! Well, aside from a menu that includes (we're not kidding) a drink called, Mixed Berry Beats Dunkin’ Refresher, the DunKings are an exclusive group of Boston’s finest coffee lovers. The trio is comprised of Affleck, Matt Damon, and, of course, Tom Brady. The group made their first appearance in Dunkin's Super Bowl commercial, where they crash Jennifer Lopez’s recording session to show off their new music.
The batshit ad begins with Jack Harlow, who tells Affleck to not burst into J-Lo's studio. (Can a Kentucky native be a DunKing, too? Unclear.) “I don’t think you should do this,” Harlow says. “Last year, she came to my work,” Affleck responds. “Now I gotta show her what I can do.”
Then comes a grand performance from The DunKings. We see Affleck, Brady, and Damon, decked out in Dunkin' tracksuits (which really look like F1 uniforms). “What up, Bronx?” Affleck yells as he barges into the studio. “For your consideration: Here comes the Boston Massacre... The DunKings.” They have no musical talent, but they do have “Touchdown Tommy” on the keys, Damon in the corner (certainly questioning his life choices), and a humble dream of musical GOATness. What comes next is a spirited dance routine, which is promptly met with a solemn look from Ms. Lopez. “Are we going to be on the album?” Damon asks. I don’t think so, buddy.
The sight of Brady, Affleck, and Damon going full Dunkin'-Boston-nutso-Dunkachino during the Super Bowl? Sorry to RFK Jr., but it made for the best commercial of the night. Hell, there might even be a BADCU (Ben Affleck Dunkin Cinematic Universe) in the works. After the original commercial debuted, Dunkin’ posted behind-the-scenes footage from the DunKings set, with even more wacky subplots. In “Wasn’t Ready,” Brady and Affleck throw the old pigskin around in Lopez’s recording studio. Brady tries to play nice, passing soft throws toward Affleck—until the movie star requests something with a little more heat. Brady whips the ball past Affleck, nearly knocking the poor guy out in the process. In the next clip, “Long Throw,” Affleck claims he was once NFL Draft-worthy, while trying to aim a football in the center of a cardboard donut hole. He misses... every time.
I’m not sure what any of this has to do with coffee, but either way, I love it. Apparently, their little tracksuits are on sale, too.
