Covington native, former SLU standout going to Super Bowl with ...
COVINGTON, La. (WVUE) - When the 49ers and Chiefs take the field in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII, the North Shore region of Southeast Louisiana will be represented.
49ers assistant offensive line coach Joe Graves, 30, is in his second season in San Francisco after serving as tight ends coach and special teams coordinator for Georgia Southern for the 2021 season.
Graves is a former standout offensive lineman for Covington and he went on to become one of the most decorated student-athletes in Southeastern Louisiana University history.
As a three-year starter for the Lions, he was given All-Southland Conference honors in those seasons and he helped Southeastern win back-to-back conference titles in 2013 and 2014.
After graduation in 2016, Graves began his coaching career, accepting the position of running backs coach at Southeastern for two seasons before accepting the same position at the University of Louisiana-Monroe for two seasons.
In his first season in the NFL in 2022, the 49ers’ offensive line went five games without allowing a sack, matching the most games registered in a single season for the 49ers since the 1980 and 2000 seasons. The 2022 49ers offense averaged 5.94 yards per play, which ranked fourth in the NFL.
