Former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider is the controversial subject of a new, four-part docuseries streaming now.

"Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" addresses allegations of abuse and toxic behavior on the sets of Nickelodeon's most popular children's shows, including "Drake & Josh," "Victorious" and "iCarly." The series is premiering over two nights, with the first half releasing Sunday, March 17, and the rest coming Monday, March 18, on Investigation Discovery.

Schneider, previously dubbed the "Willy Wonka of television" by Forbes, has come under fire in recent years for his alleged misconduct against Nickelodeon's child actors.

In 2018, a Deadline article announcing Schneider's departure from the network referenced his controversial treatment of younger stars and "well documented temper issues." Three years later, The New York Times reported Schneider's Nickelodeon exit came after parent company ViacomCBS, now called Paramount, performed an internal investigation, which found that many of his colleagues allegedly viewed him as verbally abusive.

And in the bestselling memoir, "I'm Glad My Mom Died," former "iCarly" and "Sam and Cat" star Jennette McCurdy detailed her negative experiences on set while working on Schneider's shows.

So where is he now? Here's what to know.

Where is Dan Schneider now?

Schneider has laid extremely low in the years following his exit from Nickelodeon.

After he was a prolific showrunner, producer and writer at the network for 24 years, Nickelodeon parted ways with Schneider in 2018.

At the time, Schneider still had three shows on air: “Henry Danger," “The Adventures of Kid Danger” and “Game Shakers.” A few years prior, his show "Sam & Cat," featuring Nickelodeon sweethearts Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande, was canceled after 36 episodes.

During the same time, Deadline broke the news that several people who worked close to Schneider made complaints about his behavior. Deadline also noted his “well-documented temper issues for years" and "his tweeted photos of the toes of his young female stars."

After his split with Nickelodeon, Schneider entered a public hiatus until he was interviewed by The New York Times three years later. The outlet revealed the network severed ties with Schneider after the ViacomCBS investigation.

In the 2021 interview, Schneider denied leaving the network on bad terms, adding he needed to "take a break" and that he lost more than 100 pounds during his time off. He also stated his plans to return to television with an “ambitious and very different” pilot that he sold to another network.

As of 2024, there has yet to be any news about Schneider's pilot or any other television projects. He occasionally posts on Instagram about the accomplishments of his former Nickelodeon colleagues, such as Ariana Grande and Austin Butler.

On Tuesday, Schneider sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to address allegations depicted in "Quiet on Set." In the interview, Schneider said that, in watching the docuseries, he saw embarrassing behavior he regrets.

"I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology," he said.
