Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge Get Married on French Riviera
Two music industry families tie the knot.

Quick, someone Google “How do you say ‘congrats’ in French?” (Oh, duh, “bravo.” Yeah, this makes sense.) Anyhow, all expressions of good wishes and happiness are due to the new happy couple, Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge, who just got hitched at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes on the French Riviera.

Richie, 24, is a model and social media personality, and daughter of 73-year-old R&B legend Lionel Richie. The British-born Grainge, 29, is the founder of 10K Projects, an L.A.-based record label whose current artists include Ice Spice, Between Friends, Internet Money, and Natalie Jane. Grainge is the son of Sir Lucian Grainge, current chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group. Grainge the Elder was named Executive of the Decade by Billboard in January 2020.

The nuptials were attended by Richie’s parents, the four-time Grammy-winner Lionel and Diane Alexander, plus sister Nicole Richie and her husband, Good Charlotte lead singer Joel Madden. Additional rice-throwers included friends Paris Hilton and husband Carter Reum, plus Cameron Diaz and her husband Benji Madden, Good Charlotte's guitarist and twin brother to Joel. (If you came to this affair without a member of Good Charlotte, you were underdressed!)

Richie's wedding gown was a custom number designed by Chanel in Paris. Vogue accompanied the bride-to-be during a final fitting, with her then-future-mother-in-law Lady Caroline Grainge and bestie Ali Meller in attendance. As Chanel’s Madame Olivia Douchez, première of haute couture atelier, made last-minute adjustments to the “iridescent white sequins” Richie said that if Elliot “doesn’t cry,” upon seeing her in her gown, “I’ll be very sad.” She also said the dress “definitely is not simple!”

Matrimony means changes for Sofia Richie. For one, she has adjusted her TikTok handle, and it now reads @sofiarichiegrainge. (No such move yet on Instagram, where she has 8.4 million followers to TikTok’s 1.2 million.) Additionally, earlier this month, she declared that she had converted to Judaism, aligning herself with her now-husband’s faith. Via Instagram Stories, she thanked Nathan Lam, cantor at Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts, “for helping me along this journey of converting,” and included numerous Star of David emojis. The Temple of the Arts boasts producer Hiam Saban as one of its benefactors, and made The Hollywood Reporter’s list of top L.A. power synagogues.

Assuming the couple were married in a Jewish ceremony, it means that Elliot Grainge did the cool thing of smashing a glass with his foot and, more importantly, the couple were likely lifted in chairs as everyone danced around them in a circle as wild klezmer music played. One wonders, though, if at no point “Lady (You Bring Me Up)” by Richie’s old group the Commodores brought everyone to the dance floor. Is a marriage even legal if this song isn’t played at some point? Either way, we're hoping everyone had a swell time!
