MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Shannon Sharpe says it would be "great" if he joined Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s "First Take," but he insisted he will make an announcement regarding his future in the next 10 days.
As reports and speculation about the Pro Football Hall of Famer’s media career continue this summer, Sharpe did not divulge any details on his next move during a Thursday interview with USA TODAY before DJ Khaled’s We The Best Golf Classic.
Sharpe said his next venture would heavily involve "Club Shay Shay" – his weekly YouTube show and podcast.
"If I’m on there this fall, that’ll be great," Smith said regarding the Wednesday report from Front Office Sports that Sharpe could join Smith and "First Take" as a contributor.
"But if I’m not, I still have a platform where people can find me."
Sharpe said he found out from his daughter he was trending on social media Wednesday after Smith addressed the report in a tweet.
So Sharpe played along with a tweet of his own.
"I found out why I was trending. I guess some people know more than what I know. That was my first time hearing about it," Sharpe said.
"Since I found out I was trending for that, I went along and played with Stephen A., because he’s going to make an announcement on Friday. I was like 'OK, I want to hear the announcement you’re going to make.'"
Sharpe, a three-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame tight end, had his final "Undisputed" show with former co-host Skip Bayless on FS1 on June 13, ending a run together that started in 2016.
But it appears Sharpe could be back in the swing of his media career in August.
"I don’t have any announcements to make currently, but yes, in the next 10 days I’m going to make an announcement," Sharpe said.
