Kansas City under severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — UPDATE, 9:49 p.m. | Flooding is possible in the northwestern KC metro as 1-3" of rain has fallen thus far.

UPDATE, 9:20 p.m. | In Kansas City, Kansas, fans at Children's Mercy Park were told to seek shelter as the Sporting KC match went into a weather delay.

UPDATE, 9:18 p.m. | While cold air moved in around 8:30 p.m. to Kansas City, allowing storms to weaken, the line continues onward to Trenton.

Daviess, Grundy and Livingston counties in Missouri are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 9:30 p.m.

UPDATE, 8:29 p.m. | Around 8:25 p.m., a non-severe storm reached Kansas City.

A severe thunderstorm watch over Anderson and Coffee counties in Kansas will expire at 9 p.m.

UPDATE, 8:02 p.m. | The KSHB 41 Weather team is monitoring the storm for possible tornado development.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in place in Leavenworth County Kansas and Missouri counties Buchanan, Clay, Clinton, DeKalb and Platte until 8:30 p.m.

UPDATE, 7:43 p.m. | Kansas City is now under a severe thunderstorm watch that lasts until 10 p.m.

In the next 1-2 hours, the storm is capable of damaging wind gusts, hail and possibly a brief tornado.

UPDATE, 7:29 P.M. | A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 8:15 p.m. for Douglas, Jefferson and Shawnee counties in Kansas.

In Missouri, a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Buchanan and Platte counties until 8 p.m.

UPDATE, 7:04 p.m. | For fans out at Children's Mercy Park preparing to watch Sporting Kansas City, storms will likely roll in toward the end of the first half around 8 p.m.

UPDATE, 6:29 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning for Andrew, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway and Worth counties in Missouri is in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday.

UPDATE, 6:10 p.m. | The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Kansas that includes Jefferson, Douglas, Franklin and Anderson counties. It is set to expire at midnight.

UPDATE, 6 p.m. | While a watch has not yet been issued for the Kansas City metro, KSHB 41 meteorologist Wes Peery expects the window for severe weather in the area to last from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday.

EARLIER | Counties in northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri have been placed under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Saturday.

In Kansas, Atchison and Doniphan counties are among those included in the watch.

In Missouri, Atchison, Holt, Buchanan, Nodaway, Andrew, Gentry, DeKalb, Harrison and Worth counties are under the watch.

The National Weather Service advises hail up to the size of a ping pong ball is possible as well as the chance of wind gusts up to 70 mph.
