Texas A&M football's 43-41 loss to Auburn on Saturday night was brutal, but not much has changed for their playoff chances. The Southeastern Conference has confirmed that whoever wins the game between Texas and Texas A&M next week will face Georgia in the SEC Championship game.

How are the Aggies still in contention with three losses? Alabama and Ole Miss eliminated themselves from championship consideration after losing Saturday. While the Aggies have three losses, only two were conference games and neither were against the Bulldogs, giving them an advantage over the Volunteers.

Texas A&M's chances of getting an at-large bid into the College Football Playoff took a hit on Saturday. With two conference losses, a third one would eliminate any chance they had of making the CFP. If the Aggies beat the Longhorns next week but lose to the Bulldogs in the title game, they'd still be in contention despite having four losses.

Texas has one conference loss and could earn an at-large bid even if it loses to Texas A&M next week.

To date, Justin Tucker's 40-yard field goal to secure a 27-25 win over the Aggies on Nov. 24, 2011 remains the last memory of the Texas-Texas A&M series. Three years ago, Tucker told the American-Statesman that he was looking forward to the resumption of the rivalry.

With how the season has played out up to this point, there isn't a better time for these teams to play each other.
