This team isn’t prone to elongated slumps. It last lost four in a row from Jan. 6-13. They lost exactly two in a row just five times all season.
Monday night was supposed to be a coronation, and it felt like that for two periods.
The Rangers carried a one-goal lead into the final 20 minutes.
Then, everything went wrong, the Hurricanes ripping off four goals in the final stanza for a 4-1 victory at a stunned Madison Square Garden to force a sixth game in this second-round series.
Game 6 is Thursday in Carolina.
