Omonia vs. Man United result, highlights & analysis as Rashford and Martial come to Ten Hag's rescue

Manchester United won in Europa League action after coming from a goal down to beat Omonia. Substitutes Marcus Rashford (pictured) and Anthony Martial (pictured) came to Erik ten Hag’s rescue with the goals. The Red Devils won thanks to a brace and a crucial strike by the latter.

United enjoyed complete dominance in the first 20 minutes, with 82% possession and eight shots on goal. Omonia's 51 shots were not enough. United completed 220 passes and took eight shots on goal.

Despite all their pressure around Omonia's box, they couldn't find the back goal. Antony and Ronaldo came closest to scoring in the first 45. However, goalkeeper Fabinho made some impressive saves.

Tyrell Malacia was kicked off at half-time in Manchester City's 6-3 defeat. Tonight, he suffered the same fate after he lost the ball at Omonia's end that resulted in a brilliant counter-attacking goal by the home team. Bruno Felipe ran after the ball and played the perfect pass for Karim Ansarifard, who took a touch before firing his shot past De Get.

Ten Hag made some changes, as Rashford introduced Martial in the second period. Both players had immediate impact.

Rashford finished the night with two goals, an assist, while Martial did what Ronaldo couldn’t all night and scored the goal with an impressive finish in 63 minutes. 

Omonia made a late comeback with five minutes left to go through Nikolas Panayiotou, who had just replied to Rashford’s second minute earlier. The Red Devils held on to win three crucial points and set themselves up for the knockout stages.

Ronaldo continues to wait for a 700th goal 

Ten Hag stated that Ronaldo is "p*ssed when he's playing" this week. You could argue that he'll be more annoyed after tonight's failure to find the back of his net. The Portuguese are one goal away from reaching the ridiculous 700 club milestone, but tonight against what was supposed be an easy opposition, it just wasn’t going to happen.

The 37-year old looked energetic throughout the first half, but Fabinho made a strong save from a powerful shot from a tight angle. Ronaldo saw more opportunities disappear as the game progressed.

He hit the post from six metres away when it seemed harder to miss. He blasted a free kick over the bar, found side netting, and curled one just a few inches wide at the post in the dying minutes. Although Diogo Dalot was the one who set up the opportunity, it seemed that the Portuguese fullback had a huge chance to score. However, he declined the chance to slide into an opening net to find Ronaldo on his doorstep.

Although some might say Ronaldo was just going for goal, he did provide a nice assist to Rashford, setting up Rashford for his second. The former Real Madrid man was all smiles (cheeky ones) but he'll be disappointed that he didn't reach 700 and prove to Ten Hag that City should never have been overlooked.

Rashford and Martial find form

If you need any evidence that Rashford is returning to his best, then how about already matching his goal tally of (5) from last year? Perhaps it's the World Cup approaching, or maybe it's a new lease on life under a new manager. Rashford seems hungry to prove his point, whatever it may be. He was a great partner for Ronaldo, and when Martial was added to the attacking frontline, England's forward was the main point that made the game tick up front. 

Rashford stated that although I prefer playing left-side, it is more natural for me. However, I enjoy both playing [left wing] and helping the team. "If you have injuries, you never know what might happen and where you might need to play."

He was also kind to Martial, who added to his brace against City with another tonight from the bench. Rashford stated that Martial is a huge player for us and has been for a long period. He is an incredible player when he is happy and doing his job. He has been hurt more than me so it is important for him to get minutes and make an impression.

This will give Ten Hag another thought when he puts together future lineups. Jadon Sancho was almost invisible during his first-half appearance, before he was taken off at the break.

78th minute:Ronaldo hits it! He can't believe that he hasn't found the net. Dalot does a great job of rounding the goalkeeper. He then cuts it back towards his team-mate who passes it first time towards goal, but it bounces off the woodwork from six yards away.

77th minute: The Cypriots aren't giving in. They push forward, but De Get gathers well and weakens the final shot. You feel that this tie would be settled if United had another goal.

31st minute: Diogo dalot passes a through ball to Ronaldo on the right, but the striker's cutback runs straight across the box without any Red Devils players in a position to tap home. United are applying pressure.

19th min: Sancho hits the bar as his chipped effort is cleared off the line by Nemanja Miletić. The referee calls for a foul against United.

17th minute: Antony must score! He decides to be selfless and square it back with Fernandes. The goalkeeper was rushing the ball out, but his pass is in front of his teammate. Fernandes looks at him as if he is saying, "Why didn't you just shot!"

15th minute: He almost scored a fantastic goal! He grabs the ball from the box and turns his man as if he's not there. Then he attempts a cheeky toe poke in the goal but it's blocked. The 37-year old makes a bright start.

14th min: Ronaldo goes up for a header and Héctor Yuste accidentally collides with him in the air. Ronaldo looks sore on the back, but he gets up quickly enough to get on his feet again.

9th minute: Huge chance for Ronaldo Antony passes the ball to him on the left side box. The Portuguese then takes a touch and launches a shot from a tight angle, but it's straight at goalkeeper. 

6th minute:Bruno Fernandes is in Jadon Sancho on left. With few options, the former Borussia Dortmund attacker hits one but it's dragged wide.

3rd Min: United win an early corner, but Christian Eriksen's attempt to clear the front post is unsuccessful and it's easily cleared.
