Cheez-It Bowl Live Updates F: Miami 34, Oklahoma State 37
The No. 18 Miami Hurricanes football team will take the field one more time in 2020 tonight, wrapping up the craziest college football season in the modern era, during a Cheez-It Bowl match-up against No. 21 Oklahoma State.
The game is set to kickoff at 5:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN.
At the time of publishing this article, Miami was a 1.5 point underdog according to the William Hill Sportsbook.
Miami (8-2) is looking to bounce back from a 62-26 loss to North Carolina in the regular season finale, a game in which the Tar Heels ran for 554 yards.
The 2020 Hurricanes became just the second Miami team since joining the ACC in 2004 to win seven conference games; head coach Manny Diaz was defensive coordinator on staff the last time the Hurricanes won seven ACC games in a single season (2017). Miami finished that year with a 10-3 mark.
Miami is going bowling for the eighth straight season and will be making a record sixth appearance in what is now the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 29 in Orlando.
UM topped Oklahoma State, 40-3, in the only other matchup between the two in Miami in 1991 - a year the Canes won the national championship
The Hurricanes have a 20-23 all-time record in 43 bowl games in program history. Coach Manny Diaz is 0-1 in bowl games as a head coach after Miami fell to Louisiana Tech, 14-0.
Miami is 3-2 in this bowl game, and the Hurricanes are looking for their first bowl win since their last appearance in it in 2016.
Oklahoma State (7-3) presents a formidable challenge for the Hurricanes.
Including the 2020 season, Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 11 of the past 13 seasons and has posted 10-win seasons six of the past 10 years.
This is the 15th consecutive bowl appearance for Oklahoma State. Coach Mike Gundy owns a 9-5 record in bowl games.
OSU's defense has held its opponents to an average of 365.7 yards of total offense per game, which if the season ended today would mark the lowest average allowed by the Cowboys since the 2009 season (332.5). The most impressive statistics from the Cowboy defense has been its ability to score and to stop opponents on third down. The OSU defense has four touchdowns this year to rank No. 1 in the FBS, including three fumble return touchdowns (also No. 1) and a pick six. OSU ranks No. 2 in the country in third down defense with a 26.3 opponent conversion rate (40 of 152).

First Quarter• Miami won the toss and deferred to the second half.
• Oklahoma State scored a touchdown on the opening drive. On fourth-and-6, Oklahoma State Spencer Sanders rolls out and escaped the pocket to toss a 30-yard touchdown to Brennan Pressley to give the Cowboys a quick 7-0 lead with 11:39 remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown play capped a ten play, 75-yard drive in which OSU did not attempt a run. Quarterback Spencer Sanders completed 8-of-10 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown on the drive.
• The Hurricanes picked up one first down during their first possession, but were ultimately forced to punt the ball down to the OSU 17 yard line.
• Senior running back LD Brown rushed for a two-yard touchdown to cap a 8-play, 82-yard touchdown drive to give Oklahoma State a 14-0 lead with 5:25 remaining in the first quarter.
• Miami picked up one first down, but the drive ultimately sputtered with the Hurricanes going for it on 4th-and-2 at midfield and not converting, giving the Cowboys favorable field position.
• Oklahoma State responded with a six-play, 49-yard touchdown drive that was capped by a 32-yard catch and run by Brennan Pressley for his second touchdown of the game with 56 second remaining in the first quarter.
• Miami drove the ball down to the Oklahoma State 13 yard line at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter• The Hurricanes scored on a ten-yard touchdown pass from D'Eriq King to Brevin Jordan to cap a five-play, 68-yard touchdown drive to cut into OSU's lead, 21-7 with 14:14 remaining in the second quarter.
• Oklahoma State drove the ball down to the red-zone on their next possession and was forced to settle for a field goal attempt. Kicker Brady Pohl missed a 33-yard attempt to the right as Miami finally got off the field without allowing OSU to score.
• Miami drove the ball down to the red-zone, but the drive stalled out after D'Eriq King sustained a serious knee injury and UM had to settle for a field goal to cut the lead down to 21-10.
• The Hurricanes then forced OSU to punt, but the punt was muffed by Mike Harley, giving OSU the ball back. Miami's defense was then able to force another three-and-out, but the Hurricanes were unable to get much of a drive going.
Halftime• D'Eriq King led the Hurricanes in the first half with 113 passing yards and one touchdown.
• Running back Don Chaney Jr. had two receptions for 43 yards while Brevin Jordan caught three passes for 39 yards and one touchdown.
• Chaney was the leading rusher with 27 yards in the first half.
• Te'Cory Couch led the Hurricanes with seven tackles. Jahfari Harvey finished with one sack.
• OSU quarterback Spencer Sanders completed 19-of-24 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.
• OSU star wide receiver Tylan Wallace caught six passes for 45 yards. Brennan Pressley caught four passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
• OSU's offense totaled 252 yards of offense.
Third Quarter• Miami opened the second half with the first possession out of halftime.
• UM's opening drive of the second half was plagued by drops by Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins and the Hurricanes had to settle for a 40-yard field goal by Jose Borregales to cut into Oklahoma State's lead, 21-13.
• The Hurricanes forced Oklahoma State into a three-and-out in the opening drive of the first half. UM starts their next drive at their own 20 yard line.
• Miami answered with an eight-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that was capped by a 42-yard touchdown run by Cam'Ron Harris. The Hurricanes went for the two-point conversion and tight end Brevin Jordan fought for the tough yardage to tie the score up. The call was then reversed after a replay.
• On their next possession, Oklahoma State was able to grind out a 17-play, 71-yard drive that was capped by a 26-yard field goal to push OSU's lead to 24-19.
• After picking up one first down, N'Kosi Perry fumbled a zone-read with Don Chaney Jr. to give the Cowboys possession at midfield.
• Oklahoma State finished the third quarter with a first-and-goal situation.
Fourth Quarter• Sanders connected with Dillon Stoner on a quick slant for a five-yard touchdown to push OSU's lead to 31-19 with 14:19 remaining in the game.
• Miami responded with an impressive seven-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by a one-yard touchdown throw from Perry to Brevin Jordan. The touchdown was scored with 12:03 remaining in the game.
• Brennan Pressley caught his third touchdown of the game, a 16-yard play, to cap a 75-yard drive to push the lead to 37-26.
• The Hurricanes responded with a ten-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that was capped by a five-yard touchdown pass from Perry to Mike Harley to cut into OSU's lead, 37-32. Miami went for the two point conversion, which was converted by Marshall Few with five minutes remaining in the game.
