OG Maco, Georgia rapper known for 'U Guessed It,' dead at 32
Georgia rapper OG Maco, known for the 2014 single "U Guessed It," has died. He was 32.
The death of the rapper, born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., was confirmed by his family on social media Friday.
"With heavy hearts, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco," the statement read. "His life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love. Through his music, passion, and unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impact."
The College Park, Georgia-based rapper had been hospitalized since earlier this month, according to a Dec. 16 statement from the family. At the time, the rapper had been in "critical but stable condition" for an unspecified reason.
USA TODAY has reached out to OG Maco's reps for comment. TMZ was first to report news of his death.
The family's statement continued: "While we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived - one that will continue to inspire and uplift others. Maco's influence, both as an artist and as a person, will remain forever etched in our hearts. Today, we celebrate a life that was extraordinary in every way."
"U Guessed It" earned Maco a Billboard Hot 100 hit with its remix featuring 2 Chainz. Atlanta-based rap label Quality Control signed him later that year, an imprint home to Quavo and Lil Baby, and formerly the City Girls, Offset and Takeoff.
The following year, Maco made XXL's 2015 Freshman Class, the hip-hop magazine's recognition of the genre's up-and-comers. Vince Staples and Fetty Wap were recognized that same year.
Maco also founded the hip-hop collective OGG, of which OG Parker, the producer of the Migos hit single "Walk It Talk It," was a part.
