Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, also known as the Winklevoss Twins, are notorious for their $65 million settlement from a lawsuit with Facebook back in 2008. The twins were raised in Greenwich.
The duo's lawsuit is famously chronicled in the 2010 film, "The Social Network," which showed the Winklevoss twins' and Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's interactions at Harvard University and the events leading up to the suit. Both brothers were played by Armie Hammer in the movie.
Cameron and Tyler originally sought Zuckerberg's programming knowledge to create a platform to help people connect virtually. Zuckerberg agreed to help the twins work on their platform that they called "HarvardConnect," but he eventually began to focus on his own, similar project called thefacebook.com. Afer Zuckerberg launched The Facebook, the Winklevoss twins filed a lawsuit alleging their idea was stolen by Zuckerberg.
In 2008, the twins received $20 million in cash and $45 million in Facebook stock in a settlement with the company. The twins invested the winnings from their suit into Bitcoin and became among the first-ever Bitcoin billionaires.
