Michigan assistant Mike Hart in stable condition after collapsing on sideline during Indiana game
In the first half of No. In the first half of No. 4 Michigan's victory over Indiana, running backs coach Mike Hart collapsed and was taken from the field for examination. Halftime broadcast on Fox revealed Hart had suffered a seizure. Hart was taken to the hospital for further examination.
Jim Harbaugh, Michigan's coach, stated that Hart suffered a "medical emergency" during the game but was stable.
"He's going stay in Bloomington to continue observations. Harbaugh said that Mike is a strong man and that he has many prayers for his success. It really helps to put things in perspective. Mike was in everyone's thoughts at the time. My thoughts were with Mike, as was everyone else's.
Hart, who is currently in his second season as Harbaugh's Michigan coach, was taken on a stretcher before being carted off the field. Hart was taken under the stadium and loaded onto the stretcher by both teams. Players from both teams knelt on the sidelines. Hart was alert on the stretcher, and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd before he left the field.
After witnessing their coach collapse on the sideline during a Big Ten contest, Michigan's players were clearly upset.
Hart was the running backs coach for Indiana from 2017 to 2020, before returning home to work with Harbaugh's staff in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh will be returning to Indiana in the 2021 season. Hart was making his first trip back to Bloomington in over a decade since he left the Hoosiers.
