Everything To Know About Mean Girls 2024 Cast Release Date
Twenty years later, this reboot is about to be so fetch.

Get in, losers. Mean Girls (2024) is hitting the big screen again in January, and the Plastics are back and meaner than ever. ICYMI, the cult classic film is ringing in the new year with a full reboot. While Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams will not be making appearances, the new film is sure to dredge up a whole lot of nostalgia for longtime fans.

The upcoming film is actually an adaptation of the Mean Girls Broadway show, which first opened in 2018. It'll include some of the show's most popular cast members, as well as some new faces.

If this is the first you're hearing about all of this, you may be feeling like Cady on her first day at North Shore High School. But fear not! Below, learn everything there is to know about the upcoming film.

Is there a trailer?

Yes! The full-length trailer dropped on Nov. 8, and if you look closely—you'll see a lot of familiar faces. In addition to appearances by some original Mean Girls actors like Tina Fey and Tim Meadows, other well-known Hollywood stars, like Busy Philipps and Jenna Fischer, will be joining the crew this time around.

The opening title card reads "Not your mother's Mean Girls," which seems to insinuate that everyone who is a fan of the OG Mean Girls, which came out in2004, is a mom now? Um, so not true! Still, it does look like this new rendition will be a bit different than its source material.

When is the release date?

The new Mean Girls film hits theaters on January 12, 2024. Make sure you wear something pink! And if you can't wait, you can watch Mean Girls (2004) now on Paramount+.

Who's in the cast?

The cast is full of familiar faces from the original Mean Girls, actors from the Broadway spin-off, and some new additions, too. Below, the entire main cast, per IMDb:

  • Angourie Rice—Cady Heron
  • Reneé Rapp—Regina George
  • Auli'i Cravalho—Janis I'mi'ike
  • Jaquel Spivey—Damien Hubbard
  • Chirstopher Briney—Aaron Samuels (Yes, that's Conrad from TSITP)
  • Bebe Wood—Gretchen Wieners
  • Avantika—Karen Shetty
  • Tina Fey—Ms. Norbury
  • Tim Meadows—Principal Duvall
  • John Hamm—Coach Carr
  • Ashley Park—North Shore French teacher
What is Mean Girls about?

The story follows a girl named Cady Heron who begins her junior year at a high school in Evanston, Illinois, after living in Africa for her whole life. She quickly befriends two social outcasts—Janis and Damian—who convince her to pursue a fake friendship with North Shore High's queen bee and titular "mean girl," Regina George.

The three friends create a plan to sabotage Regina's perfect little life, knocking her down a peg and maybe helping Cady steal her boyfriend, Aaron Samuels. The original film was first released in 2004, and actually based loosely on a book: Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman.

How is this movie different than the original Mean Girls?

First off, it looks like there could be some music involved—and more than just an excellent placement of "Milkshake" by Kelis. The original Mean Girls Broadway show includes about 20 songs, and it's possible that at least a few will pop up in the film. It's also worth noting that it now takes place in 2024, instead of 2004–so TikTok, social media, and a wide variety of fast fashion will also play a role like never before.

Plus, the cast is almost entirely different. Reneé Rapp has, however, appeared in the Broadway show. She played the role of onstage Regina between 2019 and 2020.

What songs could be in the movie?

The original Broadway show runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes, which isn't an unreasonable amount of time for a movie (example: The Eras Tour film), but it could be cut for time. There are about 20 songs in the original show, so here's which ones may be featured in the film:

I don't know about you, but I can't wait for this new reboot to hit the big screen. One thing's for sure: It'll be so fetch.
