The Surprising Fact About Matthew Stafford's Bad Weather ...
The latest weather reports forecast temperatures in the mid-30s and several inches of snowfall at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Penn. during the Los Angeles Rams game against the Eagles.
Maybe one of the top questions asked is how Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has faired in ‘bad weather’ games over his long tenure in the NFL. According to Tucker Bagley, Stafford has a bad record in bad weather: Matthew Stafford outdoors in the rain/snow: 1-8 record, 54.6 completion percentage, 14 TDs, 11 INTs. 76.0 passer rating.
Matthew Stafford Has Rarely Seen The Snow Or Rain
While that is concerning, it is a small sample size. And THAT is the most surprising fact about it. For one, a small sample size means the results could be coincidental rather than causational. That is to say, no player gets better in inclement weather and there could be situational anomalies that have had extenuating effects. The amount of variance grows in the wet and the cold, there for the need for a larger sample size is required.

But that is only one thing that is surprising. The other is that over Stafford’s 231 games, less than FOUR percent of those games have been played in the snow or rain. Despite playing in a dome in Detroit and sunny Los Angeles, Stafford has played in 23 away games against the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears and six games in rainy Seattle, Washington. And that doesn’t include all of his trips to New York, Buffalo, Kansas City, Denver, and of course Philadelphia.
