Marcus Ericsson won the 2022 Indianapolis 500 in dramatic fashion.

Ericsson had been leading Pato O'Ward and 2013 Indy 500 winner Tony Kanaan by a two-second-plus margin when Jimmie Johnson crashed with six laps to go on Sunday, leading to a red flag.

But Ericsson met the challenge. Following the restart, Ericsson crossed the finish line first in the two-lap showdown.

He weaved to the outside at the start of Lap 199 to break the momentum of those behind him, then he weaved inside on the back stretch as Sage Karam crashed behind the leaders, bringing out the final yellow flag and allowing Ericsson to win the race under caution.
