MONROE, LA – The ULM Jazz Ensemble presents “Let’s Groove Tonight” on Thursday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium, 4001 Desiard St. in Monroe. Under the direction of Dr. Eric Siereveld the Jazz Ensemble will perform selections of the music you love from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. These contemporary arrangements of pop hits will have you dancing in the aisles. Music from Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, The Beatles, Billy Joel, and more will be featured on the program. This is a performance you won’t want to miss, and one you won’t soon forget!
General admission tickets are $5 at the door. ULM students, faculty, and staff are admitted free with their ULM ID.
“Sometimes I think we consider pop music simple, or easy. But to perform these pieces at a really high level is a musical challenge. And when we pull it off, I think it’s as rewarding for us as it is the audience. I’m excited for this one!” said Jonathan DeCou, lead trumpet and current Mr. ULM.
ULM Jazz is also excited to host its Fourth Annual Jazz Festival and Clinic on Saturday, April 13th in Brown Auditorium.
The festival begins at 9:00 am, with ensembles performing every 45 minutes. There is a concert featuring the ULM Jazz Ensemble featuring Johannes Wallman, and awards are happening at 7:30 pm.
“It’s exciting to host the 4th Annual ULM Jazz Clinic & Festival here on campus! Seeing ensembles from all over the state congregate here over our mutual love of this music is humbling,” said Eric Siereveld, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of the ULM Jazz Ensemble. “And this year, having the amazing pianist/composer/educator Johannes Wallmann as our guest artist and clinician is a special honor for us and the participating ensembles. I hope folks from the community join us throughout the day and especially for the evening concert featuring Johannes as a composer and performer.”
