Lunar Eclipse 2021: When and How to Watch the Beaver Moon Tonight
This month’s Beaver Moon is set to be the longest partial lunar eclipse of the century. Here’s when and how to see it.
A partial lunar eclipse is expected to be visible before dawn on Friday, Nov. 19. The full moon will turn increasingly reddish-orange the more the Earth’s shadow covers it. But since it is a partial lunar eclipse, a sliver of the moon will remain visible even at maximum coverage, before the shadow retreats and the moon regains its normal hue.
What is a lunar eclipse and what does it look like?A lunar eclipse happens when Earth gets in the way of the light from the sun hitting the moon. The moon looks red during a lunar eclipse because of the Earth’s atmosphere, which scatters blue light and only allows red to pass through.
