Jonah Hill Accused Of Emotional Abuse By ExGirlfriend
Professional surfer Sarah Brady claims Hill prohibited her from sharing bathing suit photos or surfing with men.

Sarah Brady, a professional surfer who dated Jonah Hill in 2021 and 2022, accused the actor and director of controlling behavior, emotional abuse, and misogyny via social media Friday. In a series of Instagram stories, Brady shared what she said were screencaps of text messages with the actor during her relationship that—among other requests—warned her not to maintain friendships with women “who are in unstable places” or to surf with men.

In one image of a message Brady attributes to Hill, the You People star allegedly said that to comply with his “boundaries for a romantic partnership,” Brady should remove certain Instagram posts of herself surfing and any of “you in a bathing suit surfing or not.” The alleged exchange took place just a few months after Hill, who is now 39, announced via social media that he’d prefer it if people stopped commenting “on my body,” saying that “it’s not helpful and doesn’t feel good.”

In another message Brady says was sent by Hill, he allegedly says, “I love how your therapist thinks I suck. I literally am the best boyfriend. On earth.”

Hill also appears to speak sarcastically about the profession of modeling in an alleged exchange captured by Us. “Go model! It’s a fulfilling life you’ll [love] it. Real depth and substance for sustainability of relationships.”

Hill and his reported girlfriend, online vintage shop owner Olivia Millar, welcomed their first child together earlier this summer. “I hope my ex has a daughter,” Brady wrote of Hill on Instagram. “Maybe she’ll turn him into a real feminist.”

Neither Brady nor a representative for Hill have responded to Vanity Fair’s request for comment as of publication time.

Page Six reports that Brady and Hill were involved as of August 2021, but parted ways in early 2022. An alleged text message from Hill that Brady shared bears the date Dec. 2, 2021. In August 2022, Hill announced that challenges maintaining his mental health prompted him to step back from promoting his work, saying then that he has “spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public-facing events.”

Via Instagram, Brady said that she posted the alleged messages because “keeping it to myself was causing more damage to my mental health than sharing it could ever do … I too, struggle with mental health but I do not use it to control ppl [sic] like he did to me.”

“I think fame can put people in an echo chamber of viewpoints, which can enable emotionally abusive behavior," Brady wrote. And that while being an "emotionally abusive partner doesn’t mean they’re a terrible person … At the same time, it doesn’t mean it’s OK.”
