Updates on the I-95 fire and collapse
This morning, June 11, 2023, a vehicle fire under I-95 near the Cottman Avenue exit in Northeast Philadelphia caused a portion of the highway to collapse. Preliminary reports indicate a tanker truck was involved in the fire. Pennsylvania State Police closed I-95 in both directions around the area.
The Philadelphia Fire Department placed the fire under control this morning. Multiple City and state agencies are responding to address impacts to residents in the area and travelers affected by the road closure. We will share more details as they become available.
Guidance for residents and visitors- All lanes of I-95 are closed in both directions between Woodhaven and Aramingo exits.
- Some streets in the surrounding area are closed for the emergency response.
- Closures may change as the response continues. Travelers are encouraged to follow local news and PennDOT’s Twitter account or website (www.511pa.com).
- Travelers should expect delays and plan alternative travel routes, especially while planning for their weekday commute.
- Pennsylvania State Police, Philadelphia Police, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation are establishing detour routes.
- Residents in some areas should expect delays in trash and recycling collections. The Streets Department is assessing which areas will be impacted as sanitation trucks will have to be diverted to alternative travel routes. Follow the Streets Department on Twitter for updates.
