Honkai: Star Rail Initial File Size Revealed

Honkai: Star Rail has officially rolled out pre-installation ahead of its release, and fans can now get an idea of how big the HoYoverse space RPG will be. The Genshin Impact developer first announced the sci-fi RPG in late 2021 as a spin-off of one of the studio's flagship games, Honkai: Impact 3rd. The game has seen multiple closed beta tests since its initial reveal with HoYoverse confirming the game for an April launch last month. Now, pre-installations have revealed the file size of the highly-anticipated RPG.

Honkai: Star Rail is set to feature several departures from its HoYoverse predecessors with one of its main gameplay elements differing significantly from Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd. Star Rail sheds the action RPG combat of the developer's two previous games in favor of turn-based combat, featuring more strategic tactics in battle. The game boasts a similar element system to other HoYoverse RPGs with elements directly affecting characters with different strengths and weaknesses. Now, fans won't have to wait much longer to board the Astral Express.

HoYoverse officially announced the opening of pre-installations for Honkai: Star Rail on Saturday night. Honkai: Star Rail players on PC and mobile devices will be able to download the game ahead of time, ready to play as soon as it officially launches later this week. PC players will need to allocate 10.12 GB of storage space for the RPG while mobile players will need just over 7 GB of storage space. Honkai: Star Rail is scheduled to officially debut on April 26 for PC and mobile devices with PlayStation versions set to come at a later date.

While Honkai: Star Rail gears up for its official release, players are already confirmed to be receiving a variety of in-game rewards from the game's pre-registration campaign. The RPG quickly surpassed 10 million pre-registrations, smashing all of its goals for the pre-release and guaranteeing Honkai: Star Rail players a free four-star character following its launch. The pre-registration rewards also include a bounty of "Star Rail Passes," used as the main currency for the game's gacha system. Star Rail's hefty 10 million user milestone came just two weeks after pre-registrations were opened in February.

Honkai: Star Rail's launch later this week will look to see similar success to that of HoYoverse's other flagship title in Genshin Impact. Since the RPG's debut in 2020, Genshin Impact has taken the internet by storm becoming one of the most popular free-to-play RPGs. Each of Genshin Impact's new gacha banners typically grosses millions for HoYoverse, with some of its highest-earning banners bringing over $40 million USD in China iOS sales alone. Honkai: Star Rail will look to capture the same magic as Genshin Impact when the RPG launches on April 26.

Honkai: Star Rail will release on April 26th for PC and mobile devices. PS4 and PS5 versions are in development.
