Lisandro Martinez’s late deflected shot gave Manchester United a 1-0 win over Fulham after a scrappy 90 minutes at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
WATCH FULL REPLAY
The side combined for just 12 shots on the day — eight coming from Fulham — and United’s only shot “on target” was Martinez’s diverted effort beyond Bernd Leno.

United move up two spots to 12th with 29 points, two places and four points back of Fulham and 11 back of the top seven.
Some wins paint a masterpiece, others paint a wall
Very few are going to look back on this game with.... well, very few are going to look back on this game. Manchester United were solid at the back and so, mostly, were Fulham, but the entertainment was at a minimum unless you’re a fan of duels in the midfield. But Ruben Amorim’s team is not one that is seeking style points right now, it’s seeking any points. The most important thing was the three points. It hardly matters that Lisandro Martinez’s goal took a huge deflection, and it matters just as much — or as little — that Toby Collyer’s smart goal line clearance kept the game 1-0 late. With Palace, Spurs, Everton, and Ipswich next in the league, United can build on Sunday and — perhaps — show a buit more style along the way.

Fulham vs Manchester United live updates
Cottagers go close twice!
Fulham have the ball crossing the line but not all the way over off a corner kick, as Toby Collyer clears the danger.
Timothy Castagne whips the ball right back into the fray, and Rodrigo Muniz hits a bounding shot just over the bar.
Into the 90th minute now. Six minutes stoppage ahead of us.
Fulham subs
Tom Cairney and Andreas Pereira head into the fray for Smith Rowe and Lukic.
Man United subs
Tyrell Malacia and Kobbie Mainoo enter for Garnacho and Mazraoui. 81st minute.
Lisandro Martinez goal — Fulham 0-1 Manchester United (78th minute)
A first Man United shot on target wasn’t even necessarily going to be on target, but it’s in the goal.
Lisandro Martinez snaps into a loose ball from 21 yards and it takes a hard turn off of the shin of Sasa Lukic and sails over Bernd Leno into the far corner.
Martinez powers Man United 1-0 ahead of Fulham
Lisandro Martinez's effort from distance takes a wicked deflection and finds the back of the net to give the Red Devils the lead over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Neither Portuguese manager makes a move at halftime.
Halftime — Fulham 0-0 Manchester United
Congratulations to Fulham on both of their shots on target — the game’s only such efforts — but neither team has provided much in the form of attacking entertainment.
There’s been a total 0.42 xG between the two sides, who have split possession at 50%.
Alex Iwobi and Antonee Robinson look the most capable of producing something for the hosts, while Matthijs De Ligt and Manuel Ugarte have been busy defending for the visitors.
Raul in focus
Mexican forward Raul Jimenez blazes just over the goal from 20 yards, and he’s soon the target for an Antonee Robinson cross.
It’s not perfect, and Jimenez can’t quite work it past Andre Onana.
Fulham certainly a bit better on the day, especially on the left through Robinson.
Mainly in the midfield
Fulham look a bit brighter with the ball but this game is largely being played in the midfield and is not exactly a sight for sore eyes (in fact, it’s making fresh eyes a bit sore).
Not one of Man United’s three attackers has more than 14 touches at the half-hour mark.
Early street fight
It’s scrappy in London, with more fouls and possession changes than chances of real merit.
0-0, 13'.
USMNT man Robinson honored
Antonee “Jedi” Robinson is wearing the captain’s band for Fulham in this match.
The Cottager is amongst the Premier League’s assist leaders this season.
Fulham lineup
Leno, Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson, Berge, Lukic, Wilson, Smith Rowe, Iwobi, Jimenez
Manchester United lineup
Onana, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot, Ugarte, Diallo, Fernandes, Garnacho, Hojlund
Fulham vs Manchester United preview
The Cottagers won 2-0 at Leicester City and have lost just once since the start of December, but Marco Silva’s men have drawn a lot of matches in that span; Fulham are 3W-6D-1L in their last 10 and sit 10th with 33 points.
Man United are just four spots behind Fulham, but it’s a seven-point gap between the two clubs. Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils played Thursday, beating Rangers in a Europa Legaue late thriller.
United lost to Brighton in their last Premier League match, failing in their own bid for rare consecutive Premier League win. It’s difficult to divide these two for this match in London.

Fulham vs Manchester United prediction
Silva’s Fulham are a bear of an opponent, and United could only rotate so much at home to Rangers. But Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, and Leny Yoro played less than a half, while Andre Onan went unused. It’s not a good bet to expect strength from the Red Devils at this point, while just as silly to expect Fulham to be bowled over by just about anyone. Fulham 1-1 Man United.
