Week 7 of Friday Night Funkin' overloaded the Newgrounds servers for a moment as it launched. A Kickstarter also achieved its funding goal in a matter of hours.

Friday Night Funkin', the rhythm game created as a love letter to Flash games, released a new week today. A Newgrounds timed exclusive, it features Tankman as the week's opponent. Tankman, the Newgrounds mascot, also has a couple of his goons hold Girlfriend hostage at gunpoint. It's up to Boyfriend to save them the only way he can: the power of music!

Friday Night Funkin's Week 7 Lowdown

Week 7 includes several new songs. The leader of the Tankmen takes on the Boyfriend with three new songs: The leaked "Ugh," "Guns," and "Stress." It includes voice acting provided by JohnnyUtah.

Friday Night Funkin', originally a submission for a Ludum Dare, has exploded in popularity since its October 2020 release. Thousands of mods, tributes, and, yes, memes, have flooded the Internet. More seem to spring up every day on YouTube, TikTok, and the subreddit.

With gameplay akin to Dance Dance Revolution and Parappa the Rapper, Friday Night Funkin' is easy to pick up but difficult to master. With several different difficulty levels to select, players engage in musical duels. Most of the time, they copy their opponent's moves, but in later weeks the Boyfriend begins adding his own flair while harmonizing with them.

Each week features new music. Duel crossover characters such as the Spooky Kids or Pico between out-singing your Girlfriend's Mother and Father. Face off against a flesh-eating lemon monster who wants to boil you and your Girlfriend into broth. Square up against a pretty boy trapped in a game cartridge to save your soul. Of course, that wasn't enough.

Friday Night Funkin Stretch Goals Kickstarter — Yes, it was already fully-funded within three hours. Now they've moved on to stretch goals.

The success is nothing short of staggering. A Kickstarter announced only hours ago already reached its funding goal. At time of writing, the Kickstarter has accrued over $275,000 and over 5,500 backers, with little sign of slowing down. There are still 29 days left to go, so if you missed the initial funding you can support the developers by providing stretch goals for more weeks and characters.
