Pau Cubarsí, a year on from his debut for FC Barcelona
On Saturday 18 January it will be a year since teenage defender Pau Cubarsí made his debut for the Barça first team under then coach Xavi Hernández. The young centre back came on at half time to replace Andreas Christensen in the last 16 Copa del Rey tie away at Unionistas de Salamanca.
On his debut he provided an assist for Jules Kounde and just three days later he made his league debut in another away game, this time in the Benito Villamarín stadium against Betis.
First team fixture
Since then the Catalan defender has become a fixture in the first team thanks to his defensive skills and ability on the ball. Up to now he has made 53 appearances as a blaugranes in competitions, a total of 4,196 minutes.
Champions League debut
Cubarsí's debut in the Champions League came on 12 March 2024 against Napoli in the second leg of Barça's last 16 tie. The defender was named man of the match by UEFA at the age of just 17 years, two months and 20 days.
Flick's man
The arrival of Hansi Flick as coach has seen Cubarsí maintain his place in the side. Under the German he has played 29 times already this season, 19 in the league, 2 in the Copa del Rey, 6 in the Champions League and 2 in the Spanish Super Cup.
One goal
One thing left to achieve for Cubarsí is to score his first goal for the first team. So far he has managed to provide two assists but a goal would be the cherry on the cake - could it come against Getafe on Saturday to mark his anniversary? Let's hope so.
