FC Barcelona stands by the victims of Valencia floods
At Sunday's La Liga match between Barça and Valencia at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, FC Barcelona and its Foundation organized a series of actions to demonstrate their commitment to the communities most affected by the storms and flooding in the Valencian Community (Paiporta, Catarroja, and Benetússer). Even now, more than two months after the tragedy, these areas are far from returning to normal, still grappling with the aftermath of its devastating effects.
To raise funds, messages were broadcast on the stadium's screens and video scoreboards asking fans to make donations via Bizum code 10758 or through a QR code.
Throughout this period, Barça members, fans, and supporters have been making donations through the Fila 0 solidarity initiative, which is still available on the club's online ticket sales platforms for matches across all professional sports, as well as at the Museum, directing users to a form with various donation options.
Before the game...
Just before the teams took to the field, fans enjoyed a display of traditional Valencian dances, accompanied by music and performances from the Federació de Folklore de la Comunitat Valenciana, represented by the associations Grup de danses i rondalla Repicó de Manises and Grup de danses La Senyera de València.
Furthermore, castellers (human castles) from the Barcelona group Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària built three towers, two of which were crowned with the flags of Catalonia and the Valencian Community. This act symbolized the solidarity and brotherhood between Catalonia, Barça, and the Valencian people affected by this severe climate catastrophe.
Second auction
As previously announced, the main charity initiative will take place after the game, when the jerseys worn by Barça players, and all duly signed, will be collected and included in a second online charity auction, following the precedent set during the derby against Espanyol, which raised nearly €90,000.
FC Barcelona and its Foundation are closely monitoring the help needed by those affected, especially regarding restoring safe spaces for children and young people to keep on playing sport.
During the emergency, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Dr. Segú from the Foundation directly contacted the mayors of the three towns to offer their support and financial support from both the Club and the FC Barcelona Foundation. Later, in the month of December, the director general of the Foundation visited the towns of Paiporta, Catarroja and Benetússer to see the situation in person, and decide what type of aid was most needed with the mayors.
