Edge lost his match against Finn Balor and said "I quit" following the Judgement Day threat to Conchairto Edge's spouse Beth Phoenix. Although it took some time to get started, this match was the most successful of the night.

It was basic stuff at first. Balor placed Edge in a Figure Four which Edge eventually reversible. Balor put Edge in an apron and beat him like Rousey did to Morgan. The ref kept asking the guys if they wanted to quit. The problem with "I Quit" matches like Last Man Standing matches is that you know they must escalate to a very violent level before there can ever be a conclusion. It makes the first 80 percent of the match feel low stakes.

Balor and Edge fought their way through the crowd to the Kickoff Show panel area. Edge beat Balor with a hockey stick and made a crossface with it. But Balor will not quit. They fight in the backstage area. Edge tries to Spear Balor down arena stairs. But Balor dodges it and rams Edge crotch-first into stair railings.

Balor hits Edge with a series of chair shots back in the ring. Edge refused to quit when the ref asked him. This prompted a round of cheers that was the loudest response to the match so far. The crowd waits impatiently for something that could end the match.

That Edge vs. Finn Bálor “I Quit” Match was on another level, holy shit. The last 10 minutes of the match were tremendous, Beth Phoenix sold the hell out of the Con-Chair-To.#ExtremeRules pic.twitter.com/XLTDSa6JQM

Balor had placed a chair between the top- and middle ropes of the corner turnbuckle, and attempted to throw Edge into it. Edge reversed the action and slammed Balor head-first into his chair. Edge submitted to Balor with his Edgecator submission. Balor teased quitting by saying "I" a lot of times. But before he could say the second Word Damian Priest hit him in the ring, Dominik Mysterio followed. Edge threw both rings on the outside. Then, when Balor tried getting into the ring, Speared Balor through Dominik and Damian's ropes.

Balor was set up by Edge for a second Spear. But Rhea Ripley appeared out of nowhere and handcuffed Edge into the ring ropes. Balor whipped Edge with a Kendo Stick, and the three Judgement Day men beat him down. Rey Mysterio arrived to save Edge and began clearing the house. Dominik Mysterio cut him off, knocking his dad out and beating him down. This created nuclear heat in the arena and Michael Cole did an excellent job of explaining how absurd this all was.

Balor resumed whaling on Edge. Edge's wife Beth Phoenix entered the ring and snatched the Kendo Stick. Priest and Balor were then taken out. The crowd was captivated by the showdown between Ripley and Pheonix. It ended with Phoenix handcuffing Ripley with a Spear. She then receives Ripley's handcuff keys and uncuffs Edge.

Dominik was kicked in the balls by Edge, and Speared Balor three more times. Edge did a Crossface on Balor but Ripley distracted him with a clocking of Phoenix with Brass Knocks. Damian Priest then Chokeslammed Edge and Balor scored three consecutive Coup De Grace. Edge refuses to give up.

Ripley took two chairs from under the rings and set up a Conchairto against Phoenix. Edge then says "I quit". Balor won the match, and Ripley beat Phoenix with the chair. Great stuff.

Rating: 4.5 stars. This match was great for two reasons. The first was that, even though the match started at 60%, the final stretch was exciting and full of twists and turns. It was a lot of fun. This match was also a great way to make Judgement Day feel more important. Since Edge left, the faction felt like it was in B-grade. But with Finn Balor's win, the Judgement Day feels bigger.

The Judgement Day was a sham. The crowd was furious. Of course, it's building up to Edge ultimately getting a win back but, for the time being, it's great for Balor & Co.
