Doug Hutchison has revealed that he shot his career 'in the head for love’ when he wed teenager Courtney Stodden at the age of 50.

The Green Mile actor, now 59, told Fox News in an interview that he was blacklisted by Hollywood after his relationship with 16-year-old Stodden came to light, as he gears up to release a tell-all book in the wake of his divorce.

The Green Mile star said that he had assumed their 34-year age gap of would attract attention – but was shocked when his professional life nosedived. He blamed the decision to marry the teen bride for causing his Hollywood peers to shun him and said the relationship cost him his friends and family.

‘She was 16 and I was 50, so I knew our union was going to turn heads, but I didn’t realize the impact it would truly have,’ he told Fox.

‘I didn’t realize that in marrying Courtney, my manager would drop me, my agent would drop me. I was blacklisted. I was blackballed from casting directors.’   

Despite the impact on his professional life, he said he did not regret the relationship. 

Asked if he was worried about 'burning any bridges', the actor said he had 'nothing to lose.'

'The concern of burning bridges is over when you tell the truth,' he said.

Hutchison said he was taken by surprise when his family and friends disowned him over the May-December relationship and he was dropped by his agent. 

‘I shot my career in the head for love,' he said. 'And in doing so, I lost my family and friends. I was suddenly on the Titanic and everyone was fleeing except for me and Courtney.'    

Hutchison said he had no regrets about about the relationship, which he described as a 'bittersweet journey'.

'Do I wish I would have handled certain aspects of my life differently or said... some things differently? Yes — like everybody else. But my marriage to Courtney is not one of them. I regret none of it. It was a beautiful and powerful journey. A bittersweet journey with Courtney.'

Stodden and Hutchison finalized their divorce late last month, following a two-year separation.

Explaining why it took so long to complete the divorce proceedings, Stodden explained: 'The reason why it [took] so long is that I was filling it out incorrectly. 

'This is my first divorce so I was filling out the paperwork all wrong for two years.'

She continued: 'That entire process just ripped my soul out. And his too. We still have a lot of love for each other.'

In their divorce settlement, Stodden got to keep all of their furniture and appliances while Hutchison was allowed to keep their 2001 Jeep Wrangler, according to TMZ.

The couple split their life insurance policy in half, and Courtney took financial responsibility of three of their credit cards.

Hutchison, who now lives in Royal Oak, Michigan, got custody of their six-year-old Italian Greyhound Dourtney.

Hutchison said that when he left Hollywood for Detroit in September 2017 after the breakdown of his relationship he had run out of funds.

'Hollywood is one of the most challenging places to hold onto your character, your faith. But I left because I felt I had nothing left. My marriage was over. My career was over. I was broke. There was nothing keeping me in Hollywood.' he said.

In January Stodden shared a photo of herself in a public restroom sticking her tongue out while wearing a black bustier, tan sweater and denim shorts.

'I'm officially divorced today,' the reality star wrote in the caption for her roughly 272,000 followers along with the hashtag '#divorceday'.
