Singer shelves all 2023 shows with the E Street Band to ‘continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor’s advice’

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have postponed the remainder of their 2023 concerts as the singer receives treatment for peptic ulcer disease.

According to a statement released by the New Jersey singer on Wednesday, all of the cancelled shows will be rescheduled for 2024. Springsteen had previously postponed his September shows because of symptoms from peptic ulcer disease, which causes open sores in the esophagus, stomach or small intestine.

The tour was originally scheduled to resume in November, but the 74-year-old singer will now “continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor’s advice”.

Springsteen and his band announced their 2023 international tour last year, which kicked off in Florida in February and played several more North American shows before decamping to Europe for the summer. The Guardian described his nearly three-hour set, which reached Edinburgh in June, as “magic in the night” – “its joy delivery system is so sound, there’s little point in rolling your eyes at how tremendously Boss-like the man is,” wrote Kitty Empire.

The band got through seven more US shows before the postponement, which affects dates in the US and Canada .“Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” Springsteen said in a statement at the time. “First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”

The rescheduled dates, to be announced next week, will occur in the same venues. Fans who cannot attend the new dates will have 30 days to request a refund if purchased from official ticket companies.

In the announcement, Springsteen thanked “all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement, and support. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to see you all next year.”
