Analogue Productions Celebrates Bob Marley’s 80th Birthday with Ambitious Premium Catalog Reissue Series
Today, to celebrate what would have been Bob Marley’s 80th birthday, Analogue Productions has unveiled an ambitious series of top-quality reissues of the reggae giant’s revered catalog. This spring, the label–operated by vertically-integrated hi-fi haven Acoustic Sounds–will partner with the Marley family and Tuff Gong International to repress seven of Marley’s most iconic records on a variety of deluxe formats. In the hands of 40-year certified audiophile professionals, Analogue Productions’ release is primed to be the essential listening experience for Marley fans and a fitting tribute to his titanic artistic legacy.
On specific dates still to be announced, Analogue Productions will share innovative treatments of some of the most important works from Marley’s prolific career: Catch a Fire (1973), Burnin’ (1973), Natty Dread (1974), Rastaman Vibration (1976), Exodus (1977), Kaya (1978) and Uprising (1980). These signature entries will be more accurate to the artists’ intentions than ever before as they are expertly transferred from the original master tapes to 33rpm Ultra High Quality Record (UHQR), 45rpm UHQR, two LP 45rpm, SACD, and reel-to-reel tape (15 inches-per-second on quarter-inch tape).
Acoustic Sounds founder Chad Kassem personally traveled to Jamaica to retrieve the original master recordings and connect with the Marley family on how they might best honor the musician’s sound and memory, “We’re honored to be working with the Marley Family to give these records the treatment they deserve,” Kassem shared in a statement. “The experience of going to Jamaica, visiting Tuff Gong, and meeting the people carrying Bob Marley’s legacy forward was incredible, and we believe this series is a beautiful tribute to one of music’s greatest innovators.” Watch Kassem’s full reflection on his time in Jamaica and the making of the series in the video below.
