The Patriots do not have any other quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Jakobi Meyers, a receiver, is out of action for Sunday's game with a knee injury.

After Hoyer was hurt, Packers linebacker Rashan Garry surged off the edge to right tackle Isaiah Wynn, and barreled into the 36 year-old QB.

Hoyer entered the pop-up medical tent in the sideline. After about five minutes, he was out of the tent and walked to his locker room for further evaluation. Hoyer had directed a 10-play 56-yard opening drive that culminated with a 37 yard field goal to give Patriots a 3-0 lead.

He was playing in Jones' place after sustaining a left ankle injury in Week 3.

Halftime saw the Patriots lead 10-7, with their lone touchdown coming from Jack Jones, rookie cornerback. He returned a 40-yard interception for a touchdown late into the second quarter.

At halftime, Zappe is 6-of-10 and has rushed for 31 yards. Wynn was also beaten by Gary in the second quarter. He sacks Zappe and recovers the fumble.

Hoyer wasn’t the only Patriots player to be injured. Tight end Jonnu Smith also left the game late in the second half and went to the locker area for evaluation. In the third quarter, Hoyer was removed from the game with an ankle injury.

Also Sunday, Packers safety Adrian Amos was also ruled out with a concussion in the first quarter.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky contributed this report.
