Interstate 80 Shuts Down, Evacuations Ordered as Fire Breaks Out in Vallejo, California
- The fire began at about 9 a.m. Sunday.
- It forced I-80 to close in both directions.
Interstate 80 was closed and evacuations were ordered in the San Francisco Bay Area when a fire broke out in Vallejo, California, about 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
The blaze, known as the Glen Cove Fire, forced the evacuation of California State University Maritime Academy, also known as Cal Maritime.
Fire also began across the Carquinez Strait in Contra Costa County leading to evacuations in parts of the city of Crockett. The entire city was warned to be ready to evacuate if the fire spreads.

"Due to a fast moving fire an immediate evacuation has been ordered for the area south of Pomona Street in Crockett. Residents south of Pomona Street, west of Crockett Blvd and east of Highway 80 should evacuate now. Leave now and go towards westbound Highway 80 or San Pablo Avenue," the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Vallejo is 55 miles south of Geyserville where the massive Kincade Fire has forced 185,000 people to flee their communities.
