How celebrities are celebrating the holidays

From holiday movies and favorite meals to decorating their homes, USA TODAY has the scoop on how the biggest stars are celebrating the holidays.

Travis Kelce has officially welcomed Adam Sandler back to "Happy Gilmore 2."

The Kansas City Chiefs superstar and Taylor Swift's beau kicked off the first-look trailer for the long-awaited sequel to Sandler's 1996 comedy "Happy Gilmore."

"It's great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore," Kelce says to Sandler's famed golfer character in the trailer, premiering on Netflix's Christmas Day NFL Gameday 2024. It's unclear what role Kelce, vintage spiffy with slicked-back hair, has in the comedy.

Sandler starred in his greatest comedy 28 years ago, portraying the hot-tempered failed hockey player who discovers a super-talent for golf with a slapshot swing. The sequel, due on Netflix in 2025, features a reunion of Sandler and Julie Bowen, who plays Virginia Venit. The former PGA Tour publicist remains a very Happy love interest.

"We've only just begun," Venit warmly tells Gilmore before smooching him in the trailer.

Happy Gilmore's running tee shot is as smooth as ever

The short teaser packed in many swings for "Happy Gilmore" fans: Gilmore hitting his tee shot with his unorthodox running start while wearing his trademark Boston Bruins hockey jersey and work boots. Gilmore giddily rides his golf club like a horse again to celebrate another shot and gives a "Yeah, baby!" after a sandtrap exit.

There's even a graveyard faceoff with Gilmore's cocky golf nemesis Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) next to a Peterson headstone — presumably for Gilmore's coach and mentor Derick "Chubbs" Peterson, originally played by Carl Weathers, who died in February. The two foes utter each other's names and glare at each other.

Why is Travis Kelce in 'Happy Gilmore 2,' and where's Bad Bunny?

In an August appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon," Sandler teased the Kelce cameo. "Travis mentioned it, so we have a nice something for Travis," Sandler told Fallon.

Grammy-winning reggaetón sensation Bad Bunny, who was confirmed for an unspecified role on Netflix social media in September, plays Happy's caddie in the teaser trailer.

In an April appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show," Sandler said he would "love" to get comedian Drew Carey in the movie after Carey's "The Price is Right" predecessor Bob Barker appeared in the original. Barker played against type to star as a golf partner with Gilmore, a star-crossed pairing that devolves into an on-course fistfight in the comedy.

"When we were writing stuff, Bob (Barker) was alive," Sandler said of Barker, who died in 2023 at age 99.
