Tornado warning issued for central Dauphin County

A tornado warning has been issued for central Dauphin County, east-central Perry County, and northwestern Lebanon County.

The warning is in effect until 5:45 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service at State College, “a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over New Buffalo, moving east at 30 mph.”

Radar had indicated there was rotation, forecasters said.

The severe thunderstorm is expected to cause tree damage, as well as damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles. Flying debris will be dangerous.

The storm is predicted to be located near Linglestown, Dehart Dam, and Skyline View around 5:10 p.m. And, moving toward Harper Tavern, Lickdale, Fort Indiantown Gap, and Penn National Race Course around 5:20 p.m. It should be in the area of Fredericksburg and Cleona around 5:30 p.m.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Enders, Ono, Halifax, Dauphin, and Jonestown.

People in those locations are encouraged to take cover now.

"Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building,” meteorologists said. "Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. This cluster of thunderstorms is capable of producing tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.”

Interstates expected to be impacted by the storm I-78 from mile markers 0 to 5, and I-81 from mile markers 78 to 97.
