National Weather Service issues tornado warning for parts of Cuyahoga  Medina Summit Geauga and Portage counties

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A tornado warning was issued for parts of Medina, Summit, Cuyahoga, Portage and Geauga counties late Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The warning is in effect until 5:45 p.m.

Severe thunderstorms that could produce tornados were located around Akron, Hudson, Barberton and Macedonia among other cities, according to the NWS. Conditions that could possibly produce a tornado were spotted earlier in Medina County.

The warning said a tornado was spotted just after 4:45 p.m. near Rittman in Medina County, according to the NWS. Another tornado was spotted near Streetsboro around 5:17 p.m., and it was moving east.

The NWS has advised residents to take cover and move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building as flying debris can be dangerous to those who don’t have shelter.
