This season features 18 total castaways – 17 new contestants and one returning player, all vying for the $1 million cash prize and the title of Sole Survivor. Bruce Perreault returns this season, after a medical evacuation forced him to go home during the first episode last season.

How long are 'Survivor' episodes?

Episodes are 90 minutes this season. In an interview with Parade, host Jeff Probst said viewers will see a change "in the depth and variety of the storytelling."

"Ninety minutes allows us to show more reality scenes at their beaches," Probst said. "It allows us to show an Immunity Idol hunt, for instance, where we can take you much deeper into the hunt for the idol and the drama that comes with the discovery of an idol."
