Giants' Joe Schoen open to more trade maneuvering in draft

Giants Joe Schoen open to more trade maneuvering in draft
The New York Giants packaged picks to move up in Round 1 of the NFL draft but Joe Schoen says that won't stop them from making more deals.

The New York Giants traded up in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft on Thursday night to secure Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks.

General manager Joe Schoen traded the 25th overall pick along with the 160th (5th round) and the 240th (7th round) to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for the 24th overall selection, which they used to take Banks.

That reduced the Giants’ total draft capital for this weekend from 10 to eight selections. They have one pick in each of Friday’s two rounds (Nos. 57 and 89) and five in the final four rounds on Saturday.

Schoen said the move up will not handcuff him from maneuvering further this weekend, however.

“No. I’d still go up. No, it’s not going to affect (us). We’ll still move,” Schoen said on Thursday night.

“We still have, like, our premium, second, third, fourth. We are in good shape from that standpoint if we want to move around.”

The Giants would like to address some other need areas such as interior offensive line, wide receiver and inside linebacker, and are expected to aggressively attack those needs over the next two days.
