The morning news team got a colorful surprise when the aurora borealis paid a visit to the skies above our studio in South Burlington. Check it out!

They captured these photos at about 2 a.m.

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center says a severe geomagnetic storm caused the northern lights to be visible to us, and caused a number of communications disruptions, too. They say it could continue through this evening.

Unusually strong solar storms in May produced jaw-dropping aurora displays across the Northern Hemisphere. NOAA Spokesperson Erica Grow Cei said this event that produced light shows over the weekend will likely be shorter, but may still produce faint auroras as far south in the U.S. as Alabama and Northern California on Monday night.

The sun’s magnetic field is currently at the peak of its 11-year cycle, making storms and aurora displays more frequent.

What about you? Did you catch photos of the northern lights on Monday morning? Share them with us!
