Manchester City vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League result and ...
Arsenal showed their title credentials by holding reigning champions Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium, allowing Liverpool to take top spot on a pivotal day in the Premier League’s three-way title race.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, in the hunt for their first league title in 20 years, are second in the table on 65 points with nine games remaining, while City are third with 64. Liverpool claimed the lead with their 2-1 comeback victory over Brighton & Hove Albion earlier on Sunday.
City dominated possession, coming at Arsenal in waves. But the visitors frustrated Pep Guardiola’s men – including league-leading scorer Erling Haaland – with a textbook defensive display to extend their unbeaten league run to nine games.
Gabriel Jesus had Arsenal’s best chances, firing two shots just wide in the first half and then narrowly failing to meet an inviting cross from Bukayo Saka. City’s best opportunity was Kevin De Bruyne’s early corner kick that glanced off the shoulder of Nathan Ake but fell to keeper David Raya

Arsenal and Man City deliver dullest title ‘showdown’ but Gunners won’t care at all
19:31 , Mike Jones
It wasn’t exactly the game to justify a rise in ticket prices from Manchester City, not that anything would be. It certainly wasn’t a game to justify the build-up. That shouldn’t be a surprise. The Premier League actually has a pretty substantial history of these supposed showdowns being underwhelming games, where the tension has suppressed expression.
The real surprise, however, was how bad this 0-0 between the champions and Arsenal was. Whatever about expression, there were stretches of play where some of the best players in the world didn’t seem to be able to kick a ball properly. City’s attackers were stumbling with their touch on the edge of the box. Arsenal’s defenders were desperately hacking it clear. Even someone as sublime as Martin Odegaard played one of the most strangely-miscued through balls you will ever see from such a player.
As for his international teammate, was there even a moment when Erling Haaland connected with a ball properly? There was certainly another bad miss to follow that one against Manchester United, although this time it was more consequential.

Arsenal’s tedious display against Manchester City epitomises Mikel Arteta’s growing ambition
19:01 , Mike Jones
Arsenal could savour the tedium. On a weekend overflowing with goals, the dullest game may prove the most consequential. If the day’s great winners were Liverpool in one respect, as Arsenal were dislodged from the Premier League summit, as their 100 percent record in 2024 ended, they showed their staying power.
Arsenal did not win their war of attrition but they at least ensured they did not lose it. Last season’s title challenge suffered unmendable damage against Manchester City. This year’s tilt did not. Mikel Arteta has suffered through eviscerations at the Etihad in the past. As Arsenal collected a first point there in Pep Guardiola’s reign, the champions were unable to breach Arteta’s red wall.

Guardiola speaks to Sky
19:29 , Chris Wilson
Guardiola is the last to get in front of the cameras.
“We take the point. We tried, we didn’t create much, they didn’t create much,” he says.
“The defence so compact and we cannot regain the balls high pressing because there’s long balls, second balls and they’re really good with Havertz and all the physicality they have.
“It was a tight game, we were who we are. Maybe we miss a little bit in the final third but it isn’t easy.
“The last game at the Emirates was similar. We tried to create a little bit more but it is not easy. They have good players defending the way they did and they also did high pressing - they are fantastic in what they do.”
On injuries, he says that “John will be back soon. Kyle will be longer. Now Nathan will be longer. What happened with Kyle and especially John I said ‘OK’. I don’t know what’s going to happen this month. Adapt”.
He finishes by adding that “Liverpool are first. But there are still nine games and we will see what happens”.
More from Arteta
19:12 , Chris Wilson
A few more snippets from Arteta’s interview with Sky.
He praises “the commitment from the players, the discipline that they had in the defensive parts when we were really high up the pitch, we won the ball quite a few times”.
“When they tried to move the structure we did really well to defend the box. We did really well. 2021 was the last time they did not score at home, three years, so that says how difficult it is.
“You have to have those performances with and without the ball, especially without, to get somethin gout of a game here. Without the ball we lacked certain composure, especially in the moments we did have.”
On the title charge, he says that “nothing changes”.
“We wanted to win but we didn’t, we know the Liverpool result but we need to just carry on. There’s a lot still to play for.”
Bernardo Silva speaks to Sky
19:02 , Chris Wilson
Bernardo Silva is the first City representative to come in front of the cameras.
He says the game “was tough because we played against a top, top team, very well-organised, very competitive”.
“I think it could have gone both ways, to be honest. I thought we started better but during the game they were very good as well.
“It was tough to play against them, man-to-man when they were pressing high, and when they were defending low, their wingers were playing like full-backs, almost in a line of six.
“So, it’s never easy to play against teams who defend this well when high pressing and when defending deep, so connected.”
He finishes by confessing that he thinks the title is “out of our hands” now that they have to rely on Arsenal and Liverpool dropping points.
Arteta speaks to Sky
18:56 , Chris Wilson
The Arsenal manager is now speaking to Sky, and he says that Arsenal “made another big step today”.
“I think we had the best situations. We were really aggressive at times and getting the ball into great areas. The way we competed individually and as a team was phenomenal.
“Individually you have to be at your best. I think it is 2021 since they hadn’t scored a goal here at the Etihad. It was a really tough test for us today. We wanted to win but when you cannot win you must not lose.”
Saliba and Odegaard talk to Sky
18:52 , Chris Wilson
Arsenal’s captain and man of the match are the first players to speak to Sky.
William Saliba says that Arsenal “cannot be satisfied when we draw but it’s OK, we learn from some games.
“When we cannot win, we must not lose. So, we leave with one point but we are not satisfied.
“We have to be focused all the game. We did well. We didn’t concede. We didn’t score, but we are happy.”
FULL-TIME: Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:46 , Chris Wilson
So City and Arsenal draw to leave Liverpool top of the table with nine games left. Arsenal get a positive result where they were roundly beaten last year, and they put in an impressive defensive performance. Nevertheless, they were lacking that little bit of quality in attack.
City had the better of the chances overall – and a better xG for those that go on that stat – but they never really looked like scoring. Both sides were a little off their best in attack.
At the end of the day, it’s a result that paints no clearer a picture of the title run-in, but Liverpool have the advantage going into the round of midweek fixtures.

Arsenal host Luton before travelling to Brighton, while City host Aston Villa before travelling to Crystal Palace.
FULL-TIME: Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:28 , Chris Wilson
Gabriel, Halaand and Guardiola are exchanging words after the final whistle, but it all ends with smiles. Arteta and Arsenal certainly look happier with that result.
Grealish was getting a little talking to from Guardiola at the end.
All in all, a point that both teams can be happy with. Both sides are going to be extremely difficult to beat over the last few games of the season, but who will drop the first points in the race for the title?
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:25 , Chris Wilson
95 mins: FULL-TIME! The game comes to an end with Rodri trying to clip in a ball over the top, but Raya collects and the final whistle goes.

90 mins: We’ll have just five minutes of added time here. Both sides look in a rush to try and get a winner, but City more so.
Grealish collects the ball on the wing and clips in a cross, but Haaland goes down and there’ll be a VAR check. It looks soft.
Doku manages to get into the box and try the cutback, but it goes behind for a corner. It comes to nothing and Raya collects.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:18 , Chris Wilson
88 mins: Now Haaland is down after that corner, but it looks like he’ll be okay to continue.

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:15 , Chris Wilson
85 mins: Arsenal have a real chance as Odegaard collects near halfway and slips through Trossard. He’s one-on-one with Akanji and gets the shot away, but it’s beaten away by Ortega. Akanji did well to force him a little wider than he’d have liked.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:14 , Chris Wilson
84 mins: Saliba collects a wasteful City pass into nowhere, and Arsenal try and build an attack, but Partey’s pass misses Tomiyasu.

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:09 , Chris Wilson
79 mins: Saliba is fouled as he beats Halaand to a header. Dare I say it, the Arsenal centre-back pairing have had the better of the Norwegian today.
Declan Rice tries crossing but instead wins a corner.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:08 , Chris Wilson
78 mins: Can Martinelli grab a late winner as he did when these sides met at the Emirates?
Meanwhile, Raya is booked for time-wasting after the restart.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:07 , Chris Wilson
77 mins: De Bruyne does well to escape Partey and drive towards the Arsenal box. He squares it to Doku, who cuts inside and releases a wild shot that flies over.
Saka does come off for Martinelli. He’s looked out of sorts today, perhaps not fully recovered from the injury that kept him out of England duty.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:05 , Chris Wilson
76 mins: Raya collects the corner well and Arsenal have a bit of rest. Martinelli is getting ready to be introduced. It certainly hasn’t been Saka’s day so far.
18:04 , Chris Wilson
74 mins: Silva is the latest to deliver an inviting cross but yet again it’s met by an Arsenal head. City continue to pressure, with De Bruyne and Doku having crosses cleared.
Silva wins a corner as City look like they’re starting to turn the screw a little.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
18:02 , Chris Wilson
72 mins: Trossard’s first involvement is to beat Doku and then help win an Arsenal corner. Rice’s corner doesn’t beat the first man though.
It’s Arsenal’s turn for some sustained possession though, and the City fans are whistling as they urge their team on.
18:01 , Chris Wilson
69 mins: Arsenal are defending in two banks behind the two most advanced players, Odegaard and Havertz. The wingers are doing well to support the defence, tucking in to help their full-backs. All 11 men have been behind the ball at various points.
Arsenal continue to frustrate the City attack, and Saka wins a foul near halfway.
Trossard comes on for Gabriel Jesus.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:52 , Chris Wilson
63 mins: Odegaard does well to collect the ball but Arsenal lose it once more. Rodri lifts a chip into Haaland and the Norwegian strikes on, but it’s blocked instantly.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal

62 mins: Doku’s first involvement as he tries to win the ball from a De Bruyne throw-in, but he can’t get to it and it runs out for a goal kick.

Odegaard fouls Foden and City have a free-kick in a dangerous position. Silly from the Arsenal captain, as Foden was even facing away from goal.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:47 , Chris Wilson
57 mins: So far, Arsenal’s defensive shape has been exceptional, forcing City into hopeful balls in behind or constant recycling to the wings. De Bruyne is the latest to be caught out, as he’s offside from Rodri’s lofted pass.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:45 , Chris Wilson
55 mins: Silva does well to take down a Rodri pass and cut inside, but Arsenal keep their shape and force City to work it backwards.
De Bruyne tussles with Kiwior on the right wing and manages to win a corner.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:42 , Chris Wilson
53 mins: Arsenal are being the more aggressive of the two sides in the tackle, and the Etihad faithful are up in arms over a couple of Declan Rice challenges , but he escapes a booking for both.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:26 , Chris Wilson
HALF-TIME: Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:21 , Chris Wilson
HALF-TIME! The referee brings the first half to an end, and both teams go running down the tunnel. Neither manager will be happy with that, but Pep Guardiola will be the happier of the two.
Both sides put in tepid performances in that half, with the Gunners looking unsettled in parts. Neither side caused the other any real defensive trouble, with both lacking that little bit of quality in the final third.
17:19 , Chris Wilson
47 mins: Raya goes long on the free-kick, but again it’s easily headed away.
Arteta looks a little confused on the sidelines. Arsenal will need an injection of pace in attack if they want to make the most of what seems like a predominantly counter-attacking game plan.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:17 , Chris Wilson
46 mins: De Bruyne fouls Saka cheaply and Arsenal get a free-kick on halfway. Time for one more chance maybe?

We’ll have two minutes added on to what has not been a great half of football.

Rice delivers, but it’s easily cleared.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:13 , Chris Wilson
40 mins: Gvardiol is fouled by Odegaard just as it looked like Arsenal might have a dangerous counter.
It has the feeling of a game that will be decided on a small moment of individual quality. Maybe a De Bruyne through ball, or perhaps something coming from the Silva vs. Kiwior battle on the right wing.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:11 , Chris Wilson
39 mins: Akanji swings in an early cross and Rodri beats Gabriel to the ball, but Haaland just can’t quite reach it.

De Bruyne lines up the free-kick.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:08 , Chris Wilson

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:07 , Chris Wilson

Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal

Jesus has another shooting opportunity but there are too many bodies in the box. It bounces to Havertz but he was offside.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
17:02 , Chris Wilson
29 mins: Interesting to note that Guardiola didn’t bring on John Stones for Nathan Ake. Perhaps he’s not as well as we thought.
The game has become a little hectic in the last couple of minutes since the change.
White combines with Saka before cutting it back to Odegaard. The captain slips it through to White, who crosses to Kiwior.
The left-back squares it for Jesus and the Brazilian manages to get a shot away, but he drags it wide.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:59 , Chris Wilson
27 mins: Gabriel fouls De Bruyne on halfway and then less than a minute later, Kiwior body checks Silva. The home crowd are incensed, but no booking for either.
Arsenal clear easily from the free-kick.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:58 , Chris Wilson
25 mins: Just as I type that, Odegaard carries Arsenal out of their half. The captain slips it to Jesus who plays it on for the on-running Havertz, but it just overruns a little. Ortega is down after Havertz followed through on the challenge.
Meanwhile, Ake was struggling with some sort of injury for a couple of minutes and has been replaced by Rico Lewis. It looks like Akanji has moved to centre-back, with the Englishman slotting into right-back.
16:55 , Chris Wilson
24 mins: It’s De Bruyne’s turn to find Akanji down the right but his cross is intercepted by Kiwior. His clearance goes straight back to a City player.
Arsenal struggling to get out of their half at the moment.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:54 , Chris Wilson
22 mins: Saliba is forced into clearing long and City have it once more. Most of the possession has been quite static so far, with the home side just probing as they patiently look for gaps.
Silva slips in De Bruyne on the overlap but his cross is cleared.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:53 , Chris Wilson
21 mins: Raya plays it long to Saka but it goes straight out. Arteta can’t be happy with this at this point, and he’s having strong words with Jesus.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:51 , Chris Wilson
20 mins: Akanji loses out to Jesus and he’s forced to clear, but once again Arsenal can’t make anything of it as Gvardiol comes back to intercept well.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:50 , Chris Wilson
18 mins: Seems myself and the line-up graphics were wrong about Gvardiol, as he’s playing left-back! He pops up again on the left, but his cross is tame and it’s cleared.
Arsenal are content to sit back at the moment, and neither side has fashioned a clear-cut chance.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:48 , Chris Wilson
16 mins: Foden concedes a cheap corner and Arsenal have a chance almost out of nowhere.
Saka delivers a looping cross but it’s a little too easy for Ortega to collect.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:47 , Chris Wilson
15 mins: Gvardiol makes his way down the left wing and fools Saka into diving into the challenge, but he eventually wins a corner off the Arsenal winger.
The ball in is very dangerous and Ake gets a head to it from around four yards out, but it deflects off Gabriel and right into the grateful hands of Raya.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:45 , Chris Wilson
13 mins: White gets in down the right wing once more, but his cross is weak and straight to Ortega.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:44 , Chris Wilson
13 mins: Arsenal haven’t looked too troubled despite some early City possession, but at times they’re struggling to play out of their half.
Neither of Jesus or Havertz is offering a reliable outlet as yet.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:44 , Chris Wilson
11 mins: City are content to knock it around for a while, with almost every Arsenal player behind the ball. Kiwior’s heavy touch almost allows De Bruyne to slip Haaland in, but it’s intercepted.
16:41 , Chris Wilson
9 mins: It’s City’s turn to pressure the ball and they win it not far from the Arsenal box, but De Bruyne’s cross is collected by Raya.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:40 , Chris Wilson
8 mins: Havertz is tussling with Gvardiol as a long ball is played in, but he fouls the City man.
City are content with passing around the back for a little while, but an aggressive Arsenal press forces them to go long.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:39 , Chris Wilson
7 mins: Arsenal have their first shot on goal as Rice slips in White on the overlap down the right. He clips in a cross that Jesus brings down on his chest, but his volley hits the side-netting.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:37 , Chris Wilson
5 mins: De Bruyne loses the ball but Arsenal can’t hold it any longer than a few seconds at the moment, and the ball quickly ends up back with Ortega. City are showing positive early signs, and are putting plenty of pressure on the away side.
Manchester City 0-0 Arsenal
16:36 , Chris Wilson

Why Arsenal are finally ready to beat Man City and conquer their house of horrors
16:00 , Chris Wilson
To be the best, you have to beat the best. It is a familiar theory. It appears to be underpinning Arsenal’s planning, their strategy for the season. Or, even when the best are unbeatable, at least draw 1-1 with them.
The fact Arsenal topped the table for 248 days has been relegated to a subplot in last season’s tale of Manchester City’s treble. It did not have the inevitability sometimes attributed, but City retained the status of title favourites for virtually all of those 248 days. The two most significant came against Arsenal: 3-1 and 4-1 victories were emphatic, a brilliantly brutal illustration of the destructive gifts of Erling Haaland and, still more so, Kevin de Bruyne, whose 167 minutes against the Gunners produced three goals and two assists.
And take those two results away and Arsenal got 84 points and City 83. It isn’t as simple as that, Pep Guardiola’s team dropping five points after the title was won, three of them with a second-string side. The eventual standings could nevertheless be used to argue that Arsenal were better at beating the rest.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal make only one change from their recent win against Porto in the Champions League on 12 March, as Gabriel Jesus replaces Leandro Trossard up front.
Gunners fans will be pleased to see both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel starting, though fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli is only fit enough to make the bench.

So the home side make two changes from their FA Cup win over Newcastle. Kyle Walker, who was injured on England duty, is replaced by Nathan Ake, and Kevin de Bruyne comes in for fellow countryman Jeremy Doku.
John Stones, who was injured in England’s second game of the international break, is fit enough to make the bench, while Ederson remains out altogether.

Odegaard speaks to Sky
15:11 , Chris Wilson
Odegaard briefly speaks to Sky before the game, and he says that Arsenal arrive “with confidence and a lot of belief, and we’re going to go for it”.
“What we have done the last period gives us a lot of confidence.
“We have grown a lot as a team. What happened last season has given us a lot of lessons. I’m excited.
“Everyone enjoys playing these games. It’s a beautiful thing to be involved.”
In other news, Saka has arrived at the Etihad on the Arsenal team bus. Remember, he was an injury doubt after withdrawing from the England squad last week. It remains unknown whether he’ll be involved though.
The title run-in
15:05 , Chris Wilson
Aside from their remaining Premier League games, all three sides in the title run-in also have European competition to consider.
Liverpool have the admittedly far easier task of progressing in the Europa League against Serie A side Atalanta.
City have a potentially enthralling tie against Real Madrid coming up in the Champions League quarter-final, in what is a repeat of their semi-final tie from last season.
Arsenal will face Bayern Munich in another of the UCL quarter-final ties, giving them a chance to avenge their now-famous 10-2 aggregate loss from 2016/17.
If both City and Arsenal progress, they’ll face each other in the next round as they bid to reach the final at Wembley on 1 June.
The story between these two sides may not end after today – will their European journeys affect the outcome of the league too?
14:57 , Chris Wilson
With Liverpool currently at half-time in their game against Brighton, here’s a rundown of the remaining games in the Premier League title race.
Manchester City, the defending champions, are aiming to win a fourth league title in a row under Pep Guardiola - a feat that has never been achieved in the history of English football. City blew Arsenal away in last year’s run-in, but the Gunners are back in the fight this campaign and have been joined by a resurgent Liverpool side - who are set for an emotional final months of Jurgen Klopp’s time on Merseyside.
Arsenal lead the way as Mikel Arteta’s side visit the Etihad to take on the champions, having already beaten City earlier this season.
After that, as the Premier League title race enters April, the run-in can truly begin. But which team has the best fixtures and who has the hardest run of games to end the season? Here’s where the title could be won and lost.
