New iPhone SE revealed as Apple’s cheapest mobile in years at just £419 – and it’s as fast as an iPhone 11
APPLE has relaunched the beloved iPhone SE with a brand new look for just £419.
The new mobile borrows the design of the newer iPhone 8, and is the cheapest Apple handset to come out in the last four years.
New iPhone SE 2020 – what is it?Back in 2016, Apple caused a stir with the original iPhone SE – a cheap and cheerful alternative to the top models.
It was discontinued two years ago, but has been reborn as the iPhone SE "second generation".
Apple's latest handset uses the same speedy A13 Bionic chip inside the new £1,049 iPhone 11 Pro.
And it can shoot 4K video, charge wirelessly, and is water-resistant enough to survive a dunk.
New iPhone SE 2020 specs and features – what's changed? The raw design is identical to the iPhone 8, so your old cases will still fit the newer model.
This also means you still get a Home button and Apple's Touch ID fingerprint-scanning tech.
But the handset's innards have been significantly upgraded.
The new iPhone SE's processor is 2.4 times faster than the original model – and 40% nippier than the iPhone 8.
Storage gets a bump too with 64GB as standard, plus options for 128GB and 256GB.
Apple has fitted the back of the phone with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera.
This camera uses software and hardware tricks to create a Portrait Mode effect, blurring the background while keeping the subject in sharp focus.
Auto-focus has also received a speed boost, now three times as fast as the original iPhone SE.
The new camera is capable of shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second, as well as slow-mo videos.
Apple has also built its 4K cinematic stabilisation tech into the phone to keep your videos relatively smooth.
You'll also be able to take advantage of wireless charging if you've got a Qi-compatible pad.
Battery life is said to be identical to the iPhone 8. So that means you'll get 13 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio – though your mileage will almost certainly vary.
There's a Lightning port on the bottom but no headphone jack, and the phone runs on Apple's latest iOS 13 software.
Finally, every new iPhone SE purchase comes with a free year of Apple TV+, saving you about £60.
