Are Facebook and Instagram down? Meta users report issues

Facebook and Instagram experienced problems for some users on Wednesday afternoon according to multiple reports from those who are trying to use the social media site.

Downdetector, a site powered by Ookla that shows an overview of real-time issues and outages across many servers, said at about 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday just under 2,000 users reported having problems with Facebook. By 1 p.m. over 90,000 people were experiencing a difficulty with Facebook.

Instagram, the other social media site owned by Meta, also reported problems with over 50,000 outages seen at 1:26 p.m. on Wednesday according to Downdector.

The company Meta, that owns Facebook and Instagram, also owns Whatsapp whose problems are not as widespread, but they too show just under 2,000 users experiencing problems.

Facebook has not issued a statement about the outages yet as of 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
