From eerie bayous to historic architecture, Acadiana’s unique charm has set the scene for iconic horror films

Today is a special day for all Halloween lovers, but did you know Lafayette has a history of making spooky movies? 

With Halloween officially here today, movie fans in Lafayette have extra reason to celebrate — some of the spookiest, most atmospheric films for the season were shot right here in the heart of Acadiana.  

With its unique blend of lush bayous, historic architecture and vibrant culture, Lafayette has long attracted filmmakers seeking a setting that’s both haunting and mysterious. 

According to IMDb, the following Halloween movies filmed in or around Lafayette.  

Spooky in the Bayou: Movies filmed near or around Lafayette 

  • Interview with the Vampire (1994): A vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger. 
  • American Horror HouseIt's Halloween night (2012): A sorority house is inundated with ghosts while the housemother goes on a killing spree. 
  • Wolvesbayne (2009): In 1887, the powerful vampire Lilith is vanquished by a vampire council, and four amulets avoid her return to the world of living. In the present day, the greedy Realtor Russel Bayne is pressing Alex Layton to sell her store of esoteric products to him. 
  • The Dunwich Horror (2008): A single mother delivers a monstrous baby boy, somehow connected to a dark prophecy involving the Black Brotherhood, a book called the Necronomicon, and a demonic portal. 
  • Monsterwolf (2010): A group of people representing an oil company find new ground to drill for oil but then accidentally unleash a wolf-like creature. The creature wreaks havoc in the town and can only be stopped by the last surviving Native American. 
  • Zombie Farm (2009): A voodoo priestess raises a zombie horde to exact her personal revenge.
