The Patriots are down to their third string quarterback.
Brian Hoyer was able to take the New England starting position today, with Mac Jones out due to a high-ankle strain. Hoyer was hurt on a sack during the first quarter. He walked to the locker and Bailey Zappe is now in his place as quarterback.
Zappe, a fourth-round draft selection from Western Kentucky, was the Most Valuable Player of Conference-USA last year. He is a talented player, but no one expected him to be a rookie.
The Patriots’ defense has been playing well, and the offense got into field goal range before Hoyer was hurt, and the Patriots lead the Packers 3-0.
Soon after Zappe entered, the Patriots announced Hoyer had been declared ineligible due to a head injury.
