BANGOR – At Husson, the Eagles have been rolling on the soccer field, and they’ve got a big test ahead on Wednesday night.

Since Sept. 14, they have won five matches and tied two since then, including four consecutive wins going into this week. Arni Hreidarsson (sophomore) is leading the offensive charge. He was recently named the NAC Player-of-the Week. In the Eagles' two most recent wins, he scored three goals, including two goal winners.

“We have a lot of good players, and great players on the bench as well to come in and change the game,” Hreidarsson says. “We’re working well together, we have great players and great people in general.”

“He’s a massive threat anytime he plays up there,” said head coach Gavin Penny. “He stretches defenses, he presses tremendously, his work rate is second to none. Undoubtedly, he is if not the greatest striker in the conference and he’s starting to prove that.”

Hreidarsson, a native Icelander, came to Husson through a soccer-and education program. So he’s not only getting acclimated to Husson, or to Maine, but America as a whole since enrolling with the Eagles. It's been a great journey for him and his team are happy to have him there.

“It’s been very interesting, it’s a lot different from Iceland,” he said. “Definitely a great journey, met a lot of different and good people.”

“Arni’s a character, it’s funny, once you get to know him,” Penny said. “He had a really quiet start, and once he came out of his cage a little bit, and started scoring goals last year, the boys just fell in love with him.”

Husson plays No. 22 Bowdoin on Wednesday night, and if they’re able to stay rolling through the final stretch of the season, they’ll be in position for home field advantage come playoff time.

THE EAGLES PLAY NATIONALLY RANKED BOWDOIN ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT… AND IF THEY’RE ABLE TO STAY ROLLING THROUGH THE FINAL SIX GAMES ON THEIR SCHEDULE… THEY’L BE IN POSITION FOR HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE COME PLAYOFF TIME- SO A BIG TILT WEDNESDAY AT BOUCHER FIELD…
