The No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers attempt to end their 15-game losing streak in the Third Saturday in October rivalry when they host the third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in an SEC on CBS showdown on Saturday. Tennessee (5-0, 2-0 SEC) is 38-58-7 in the all-time series and hasn't recorded a victory since 2006, when it edged Alabama 16-13 at home. The Volunteers are coming off a 40-13 triumph at then-No. 25 LSU, their third win against a ranked opponent this season. The Crimson Tide (6-0, 3-0) beat Texas A&M 24-20 last week without quarterback Bryce Young (shoulder) and they're hopeful he'll return to the field this week, though a final decision isn't expected until pregame warmups.

Kickoff at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Why Tennessee can cover

The Volunteers scored 24 points in last year's loss to Alabama, the most they have recorded since posting a 51-43 five-overtime victory in 2003. They have the top-ranked offense in the nation this season with an average of 547.8 total yards, are 28-for-28 in the red zone and are second in the country in scoring at 46.8 points per game. Senior quarterback Hendon Hooker has thrown for 1,432 yards and 10 touchdowns without an interception while running for 231 yards and three scores.

Cedric Tillman (ankle) is likely to miss his third consecutive contest, but Hooker still has two strong options in juniors Jalin Hyatt and Bru McCoy. Hyatt has made a team-high 27 catches for 388 yards and five touchdowns while McCoy has registered 351 yards and two TDs on 20 receptions. Sophomore Jaylen Wright leads Tennessee with 315 rushing yards -- four more than junior Jabari Small, who is first on the team with six scoring runs.

Why Alabama can cover 

After receiving some mop-up duty against Tennessee in 2020, Young completed 31-of-43 pass attempts for 371 yards and two touchdowns while also running for a pair of scores in last year's 52-24 rout. If Young does not play on Saturday, the Volunteers still will need to be aware of Jalen Milroe as the freshman quarterback threw three TD passes and ran for 81 yards against Texas A&M last week. The Crimson Tide gained 286 yards on the ground in that victory, with junior running back Jahmyr Gibbs recording 154 on 21 carries.

It was the fifth career 100-yard performance and second in a row by Gibbs, who ran 18 times for a personal-best 206 yards against Arkansas on Oct. 1. He has rushed for 532 yards and two touchdowns this season and also is a big factor in Alabama's aerial attack with a team-high 22 catches for 220 yards and three TDs. Gibbs is one of seven players with a rushing score for the Crimson Tide this season, one of five with at least 210 receiving yards and one of four with three or more TD receptions.
