USATSI

Game 3 of the 2022 World Series was postponed Monday night due to rain in Philadelphia, pushing the third game of the Fall Classic 2022 to Tuesday night. Houston's rotation was not impacted by the change, as Lance McCullers Jr. is still getting the nod for the Astros. Phillies manager Rob Thomson elected to make a change, turning to Ranger Suarez instead of Noah Syndergaard. McCullers Jr. is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA in the 2022 MLB playoffs, while Suarez, who has been used as a starter and reliever in the postseason, is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:03 p.m. ET at Citizens Bank Park. Caesars Sportsbook lists Houston as the -125 favorite (risk $125 to win $100) on the money line in the latest Phillies vs. Astros odds. Philadelphia is the +105 underdog and the over/under for total runs is set at 8. Why you should back the Astros

Houston has established itself as the best team in baseball this postseason, winning 10 of its last 11 games. The Astros have taken 5-0 leads in both games during the World Series, letting Game 1 slip away before cruising to a win in Game 2. McCullers Jr. has been outstanding all year, finishing the regular season with a 4-2 record and 2.27 ERA before putting together a 2.45 ERA in the playoffs. He started Game 7 of the 2017 World Series against the Dodgers, so he has more experience in this type of situation than Suarez.

Offensively, Jose Altuve snapped out of his slump with three hits on Saturday, giving the Astros another weapon on Tuesday night. Alex Bregman continues to hit home runs at a high rate during the World Series, and he is batting .316 with three homers and just four strikeouts this postseason. Philadelphia's Bryce Harper went cold in Game 2, so the Astros could have value as small underdogs in this game.

Why you should back the Phillies

The extra day certainly could play to Philadelphia's advantage. Suarez is the No. 3 starter for the Phillies and likely would've started on Monday night had he not been needed out of the bullpen in Game 1 last Friday. He only threw 11 pitches in that outing and he hasn't had a full start since Oct. 21, so he should be fresh for this one. He's been great in the 2022 MLB playoffs, giving up just two earned runs in 9.2 inning pitched.

Harper has been arguably the best hitter in the postseason, posting a .392 average with five home runs and 11 RBI. Rhys Hoskins, J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber all have at least three home runs in the playoffs as well, so Philadelphia has plenty of ways to manufacture runs against a tough Astros staff.
