Students on UT Austin campus feel 'shift' after Donald Trump victory

Some students at the University of Texas at Austin shared disdain for the results of the 2024 presidential election.

Now that President-elect Donald Trump will be the 47th president and his running mate Vice President-elect JD Vance is coming into office, it's time to prepare for the inauguration.

If you're not familiar with the process, here is a reminder:

What is Inauguration Day?

Inauguration Day is the day when the president-elect and vice president-elect are sworn into office.

When is the Inauguration Day 2025?

Inauguration Day occurs every four years on Jan. 20 (or Jan. 21 if Jan. 20 falls on a Sunday). The inauguration ceremony takes place at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

The next presidential inauguration is scheduled to be on Jan. 20, 2025.

Do the president and vice president-elect take an oath?

According to USA.gov, the vice president-elect is sworn in first and repeats the same oath of office, which has been in use since 1884, as senators, representatives, and other federal employees.

That oath goes as follows:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

At noon, the president-elect takes the following oath as stipulated by Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

What events take place on Inauguration Day?

The events, including the swearing-in, the inaugural address, and the pass in review, are organized by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC).

The JCCIC offers a limited number of inauguration tickets to the public through members of Congress. These tickets are free and grant access to watch the president and vice president being sworn in at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20, 2025.
