Rainbow Warriors Shut Out Silverswords

HONOLULU – Behind a combined two-hit shutout by 10 different pitchers, the Hawai'i baseball team returned to Les Murakami Stadium a 2-0 over Chaminade Tuesday in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Rainbow Warrior pitching staff delivered its third shutout of the year behind a combined 13 strikeouts by 10 different arms. The first eight 'Bows pitching one inning each before Connor Harrison got the first out of the ninth and Danny Veloz got the final two to earn the save. Freshman Brayden Marx earned his first career win pitching a scoreless fourth inning while Tai Atkins, Hunter Gotschall and Myles Standish all worked three up, three down innings before handing it over to Harrison and Veloz in the ninth. UH got the all the offense it would need in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring on a Kyson Donahue sacrifice fly in the fourth and an Elijah Ickes two-out RBI single in the fifth. Jordan Donahue extended his hitting streak to 17 games with an eighth-inning single while Austin Machado's fourth inning single made it 31 of 33 games reaching base on the season. Donahue's hitting streak is the longest since 2018 when Kekai Rios hit safely in 17 straight. The Rainbow Warriors host Big West leader Cal Poly for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
