Walton County reopens beaches following shark attacks that sent
Walton County has reopened the beaches after three people were attacked by sharks Friday. But flags warn of possible hazardous surf and marine life.

SANTA ROSA BEACH — Walton County beaches and waters have reopened to the public after one woman and two teenage girls were injured from two shark attacks that occurred on Friday afternoon.

Corey Dobridnia, the public information officer for the Walton County Sheriff's Office, said via text that as of 8:05 a.m., the South Walton Fire District was changing flags from double-red to single-red and purple, indicating hazardous water conditions and possible dangerous marine life are present.

"Walton County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife will have their boats in the Gulf to monitor the shoreline," Dobridnia said. "We just ask everyone to be aware of their surroundings while in the water."

Dobridnia said she did not have an update on the medical conditions of the people sent to Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola and HCA Fort Walton-Destin on Friday.

On Friday, two shark attacks injured three people. Of those injured, two were listed in critical condition and taken to local hospitals.
