This, by the way, is what we're always talking about when we talk about international hockey "growing the game." As silly as the opening fights were, they were undeniably entertaining and buzzworthy. Unsurprisingly, social media blew up about it, which undoubtedly got plenty of people to change the channel to ABC here in the States. This is purely anecdotal, but I've seen national political writers, TV and movie podcasters, and random friends all posting about a hockey game this period. I've never seen any of them post about hockey before. The fights drew the attention, the intensity and pace of the play held onto it. Game grown.
